Fast ForWord is a computer reading series that targets essential reading skills:
-Phonics & Decoding
It is based on research on how the brain learns and brain plasticity including the connection between reading and language.
This intervention targets students in Grades 1 and 2 who are reading slightly below their grade level. A small group of students is taken out of the class for a portion of the day for a twenty-day intervention to boost their literacy skills. Students have shown great gains as a result of participating in this intervention. If your child is participating in this intervention, there will be homework given by Mrs. McKenna-Dacres each week day in lieu of regular Literacy homework.
Students will work on monthly outcomes, as well as, regularly review concepts learned in previous months.
The students will also work with mental math and number and word problems.
We are very pleased to have Physical Education specialists, Erin McAuley and Jonathan Crossland, in the school to teach your children. Your child receives Phys. Ed. instruction in the gym 3 times each week.
We follow the prescribed outcomes using many different art materials that relate to stories we have read, favourite illustrators, science and the world around us.
