MI re-certification update – Tonya Westra • Provisional Renewal • 1st and 2nd Renewals: Must complete only ONE of the following: • 6 semester hours in a planned course of study (must be done in the 3 years prior to renewal app) • 180 SCECHs (must be done in the 3 years prior to renewal app) • Combo of SCECHs or credit hours (1 credit hour = 30 SCECHs, AP Summer Institute = 30 SCECHs, also within last 3 years) • 3rd Renewal: • Sponsorship from local school district or private school, completion of all academic Professional Cert requirements and approval from MDE • If you meet the Professional cert requirements, you will be issued the Professional not 3rd Provisional • Professional Cert Requirements • Three years of successful teaching experience* since the issue date, and within the validity and grade level, of the Provisional Certificate • Must also meet the basic reading requirements (6 semester hours of teaching of reading or reading methods for elementary or 3 semester hours for secondary); • AND one or a combo of the following: • 6 semester credit hours in a planned program • 180 SCECHs • 150 District Provided PD hours (if used in combo with SCECHs or credit hours, must have 180 hours total)
