  1. Meet your first lab group • You have a number on your desk that tells you what group you are in. • Introduce yourself to the 3 other people in your group.

  2. Welcome to the marshmallow challenge. Here are the rules. You are trying to build the tallest freestanding structure.

  3. You’ll measure from the top of the table to the top of the marshmallow.

  4. The entire marshmallow must be on top.

  5. You can use as little or as much of the spaghetti,

  6. Tape,

  7. And string, as you want.

  8. You have 18 minutes. GO! • Online stopwatch

  9. Debrief (do this on the same paper as you did your free write. Use complete sentences) Title: Marshmallow challenge debrief • Why do you think we did this activity? • What role did you take in your group? • What are the positive aspects of the role you typically take in groups? • What are the negative aspects of the role you typically take in groups? • How do you want to develop your capacity to work with others this year?
