  1. Meet Your Teacher!

  2. Example Self-Introduction: Meet Your Teacher! My name is Jennifer Howell, and I am a Dongguk University professor. I live with my husband and my cat in Seonggeondong in Gyeongju. I am 37 years old. I have many hobbies, such as reading, writing, directing plays, singing, and hiking. Sometimes I like to go out with friends to a singing room, but I also like to do quiet things like meditation and spending time in nature. Right now I am studying for my Master’s degree in TESOL with Framingham State University. I am also saving money to go to Europe. If I save enough money, I’m going to go this summer. I am very busy, but I enjoy my life.

  3. Now you try! Write a self-introduction paragraph! You can talk about: …or anything interesting about yourself!

  4. This is a writing practice! Please: • Use your own words! DON’T use a translator. • DON’T worry about perfect spelling or grammar. This is a rough draft. • DON’T use your dictionary unless you need to find one important word. • Write QUICKLY. Don’t worry about being perfect. • Try to write between 7 and 10 sentences. • Tell some detail. I want to learn about you!

  5. HOMEWORK: Write about a friend or family member • Write about the same topics: Hobbies, Likes/Dislikes, Hometown, Job, Goals, etc. • Remember to write using third person verbs – He likes… She wants… He is… • Write at least 7-10 sentences. • Type your paragraph and bring it to class next week

  6. Start with a Topic Sentence. Here are some examples. If you want, you can use them exactly and just replace your friend’s name in the underlined section: 1. Peter Starr Northrup is a very interesting person. 2. Peter Starr Northrup is one of my favorite people in the world. 3. I’d like to tell you about my good friend, Peter Starr Northrup.

  7. EXAMPLE PARAGRAPH: Friend or Family Member Introduction I’d like to tell you about my good friend, Peter Starr Northrup. Peter is 25 years old and originally from Pennsylvania. I met Peter in Busan, but now he lives in Russia. He moved to Russia to be with his girlfriend. He teaches English there. He is very busy. He works 8-10 hours a day. He is also working on his novel. He’s a very good writer. Peter is very intelligent and talented, but he is also a very nervous person. I do my best to try to calm Peter down. I hope someday we will live in the same city again.
