DPPD'smissionenvisages • pre-service teacher training, includingteachingmethodologyand practice of prospective teachers; • teachers' continuingeducationandprofessionaldevelopmentthrough periodic training/developmentprogrammes, tailoredcourses for in-service teachingdegrees; • theoreticalandappliedresearch in educationsciences. The Department of Teacher Training of the University of Craiovaprovides programmes for the Bachelor's (level I) and Master's (level II): level I length is of 3 years and level II of 2 years. For graduates and postgraduates, level I and II are 1 year length each.

PRE-SERVICE TEACHER TRAINING • In compliance with the national curriculum, on the basis of the Minister Order; • A two-stage process: • Level I (in parallel with the Bachelor’s programme attendance for students enrolled in a specialisation)= 30 ECTS for students in a single specialisation, 35 ECTS for students in a double specialisation (major+minor) Upon successfully completing Level I, graduates holding a Bachelor’s degree have the right to become school-based teachers (primary and secondary education) • Level II (in parallel with the Master’s programme / Etudes approfondies attendance ) = 30 ECTS Upon successfully completing Level II, graduates have the right to become school-based teachers (high school and post-high school)

TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAMME. curriculum Admission to the Teacher training programme is based on aninterview, focusing on evaluating the candidates’: • Communicative competence; • Digital skills; • Interpersonal skills. THE TRACHER TRAINING PROGRAMME-RELATED CURRICULUM HAS 3 COMPONENTS: • CORE CURRICULUM , • EXTENDED CURRICULUM • OPTIONAL CURRICULUM

  5. CORE CURRICULUM = The CORE CURRICULUM comprises the subjects and teaching activities which are compulsory for the teaching career: 1. Basic teacher training subjects (compulsory): Psychology of education; Fundamentals of pedagogy; Curriculum theory and methodology; Teaching theory and methodology; Testing and evaluation theory and methodology; Class management; 2. Specialty subjects (compulsory): Didactics Computer-assisted teaching and learning Teaching practice in pre-university education

EXTENDED Curriculum It comprises subjects and activities that are compulsory for the successful completion of the Teacher training Level II programme. • Psycho-pedagogy of teenagers, young people and adults; • Educational programme design and management; • Didactics and field development (with reference to high school and post-high school); • Teaching practice in high school and post-high school.

OPTIONAL Curriculum • 2 optional packages (the option concerns 1 subject per package): Optional package1 • Communication in education • Counselling and orientation • Educational research methodology • Integrated education Optional package 2 • Sociology of education • School management • Education policies • Inter-cultural education

THE Department OF TEACHER TRAINING • The teacher training programme is developed and implemented by The Teacher Training Department (Romanian acronym: DPPD) in partnership with the faculties of the University of Craiova. • We are aware that our mission oftraining the 21st century teachers is ambitious, therefore, we need to join our efforts. We have partnerships with schools, universities, governmental and non-governmental organisations, as well as with other entities sharing our vision.

LIFELONG LEARNING ACTIVITIES FOR IN-SERVICE TEACHERS – TRAINING PROGRAMMES In what follows, we mention a few programmes: Teacher training for children with special educational needs (Romanian acronym: CESFORM) • Programme length: 92 hours; main objective: to change the teachers’ and community’s perception of children/students with special educational needs and to develop teachers’ ability to develop tailored curricula so as to secure differentiated and personalised instruction. Pre-school teacher training in a constructive way (Romanian acronym: PROCONSTRUCT) • Programme length: 92 hours; main objective: to improve access and widen participation of pre-school teachers in the Oltenia region to lifelong learning opportunities in the dynamic knowledge-based society.

Support of basic and applied research • Support of basic and applied research in Education Sciences, Sociology of education and Psychology of education through programmes, projectsand contract-based research, scientific events, as well as through the publication of research papers and books (course books, textbooks, handbooks, etc.) - as a strategic priority of the Department of Teacher Training (DPPD).

CENTRE FOR PSYCHO-PEDAGOGIC RESEARCH(Director: ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR Florentina Mogonea, PhD) Main research direction • Alternative and innovative models and strategies for initial and continuing teacher training Research axes and coordinators • Good practice in pre-service teacher training with regard to class management and leadership – a constructivist approach • Research of the relationship between the students’ cognitive style and creative learning.
