Who we are and our objectives: The International Bureau (IB) of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research at the PT-DLR - “IB” provides access in R&D to about 40 countries, supports and provides funding for German research institutes and R&D companies at the initial stage of international research co-operation in key areas of BMBF and EU research programmes Marketing: Research in Germany

Objectives of stimulating bilateral cooperation in Education and Research from the governmental perspective • strengthen cooperation and networking of German institutions with strategic European and international partners in order to explore knowledge, infrastructure and market opportunities • support continuing integration of CEE/SEE institutions in European networks • achieve synergies and improve competitiveness via opening and linking national funding programmes • contribute to build the European Research and Education Area and to reach the EU‘s Lisbon target

Funding scheme: Regional Call What is supported ? • awareness building for options of joint research within national and European programmes • focussing the „classical“ government supported bilateral cooperation towards the initiation of complex projects, financed under the respective national or European programmes • strengthening international cooperation in national programmes • strengthening joint participation in European programmes • supporting the preparatory phase of joint projects in strategic scientific areas

Funding scheme: Regional Call Instrument to set-up and implement joint R+D projects with CEE/SEE strategic national funding programmes of the BMBF BMBF funding programme for preparation of projects with CEE/SEE participation (Regional Call) to fit in research programmes of the European Union Regional Call: www.bmbf.de , www.internationales-buero.de International Co-operation in Education and Research – Central, Eastern and South Eastern European Region

Funding scheme: Regional Call What can be funded ? • expert meetings: • travelling expenses of German experts • costs of visits of foreign experts in Germany • pilot investigations and investigations of feasibility • maximal duration: 12 month • staff costs • physical resources (e.g. consumables for investigations) • events (workshops, thematic conferences) • Maximum amount of funding: up to 50,000 € for preparation of particularly complex projects

Funding scheme: Regional Call Who can apply? • Applications may be submitted by • public and private institutions of higher education • non-university research establishments • hospitals • commercial companies especially SMEs • Size of consortia • German applicant and at least two further institutions, one of them from CEE/SEE country

Funding scheme: Regional Call Evaluation Criteria • prospects of the proposed project for receiving funding from national or European programme • originality of the idea • qualifications of the coordinator and the project partners • potential for solving problems • benefit of cooperation • new partnerships • commercial exploitation of the anticipated results • promotion of young research talents

R&D Cooperation with other regions and other forms of funding: Preparation of joint research proposals: Germany with other countries under BMBF thematic programmes or EU programmes (+ third states), e.g. with India, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Brasil, Mexico, Argentinia, Chile, Russia, Israel, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Rumania etc. Funding of preparatory workshops Individual mobility grants, e.g. exploring the potential for R&D cooperation Cost sharing principle

  13. Branding Event marketing: - participation in lead exhibitions and congresses - integration of single activities in the general campaign - matchmaking events, symposia - preparation and follow up measures (domestic and abroad) Marketing: Research in GermanyInitiative of BMBF

Communication marketing: - unique selling proposition (Alleinstellungsmerkmale) - information (print publications, website, newsletter, ...) - press relations (subject oriented articles and talks, travel for journalists) - addressing target groups (direct mailing, system information,...)
