Environmental Science (EVS)

1. Environmental Science (EVS) • The objective of teaching EVS is: • development of observational skill, • understanding language and new terms, • collection and arrangement of data, • language expression and • development of right attitudes and values.

2. Topics covered are- • Healthy Mind and Body, • Home Sweet Home, • Clothes We Wear, • Plant Kingdom, • Animal Kingdom Around Us, • Insects, • The Earth, • Our Colourful Country-India • Modes of Transport,

3. Means of Communication, • Direction/We live in a Community and • Recreation. EVS is taught through learning-driven methods like- • Interactive sessions • Group Activities and discussions • Experiments • Audio-video presentations • Data collection activities • Worksheets • Excursions • Exhibitions • Class Assemblies • Special Assemblies

4. The subject of EVS , can be taught informally during the normal day-to-day routine. It is to be intermingled with the daily activities of the child, viz when at a supermarket or when out at a restaurant or even when playing in a garden. This informal home- teaching greatly increases the child’s interest and awareness in the subject.

5. Skill of observation (during demonstration, excursions) Carrying out oral and written instructions. Participation in class discussions and activities. Ability to draw neat pictures and label them. Ability to ask questions and enthusiasm to learn more. Answering the worksheets according to the instructions given.

7. Co-scholastic subjects • ART • MUSIC • Physical Education (P.E) Aims of teaching co-scholastic subjects : • To develop gross (larger)muscle movements. • To develop finer muscle movements. • To develop eye-hand co-ordination. • To develop aesthetic sense and appreciation.

8. Perform and enjoy a variety of physical activities with understanding. • Develop and maintain physical health and fitness through regular participation in physical activities . • Develop positive self-esteem, creativeness and inventiveness . • Develop the spirit of fair play, teamwork and sportsmanship.

9. The teachers begin with simple activities for e.g. drawing through simple imitation from the board or walking in a straight line and then move to more complex tasks. As the year progresses, activities such as art and drawing competitions, choral singing presentation and sports day help in all round development of the child.

13. The school begins at 7:25 am. • 80% attendance is mandatory for promotion to the next class. • Long leave require a letter of prior intimation, addressed to the Vice- Principal (primary section). • The letter should be given to the class teacher, who forwards it to the authority.

14. The Class and the G.R. number should be mentioned in the leave letter. • Local absence should be written in the almanac pages provided for the same. • Incase, the child has missed classes, parents can come to school to note down the missed work. No books will be sent home.

15. If the child is feverish, has bouts of vomiting or sore throat, kindly DO NOT FORCE the child to attend school. • If the child is suffering from any INFECTIOUS DISEASES like chickenpox, 15 days of quarantine is recommended period by MOH. A doctor’s certificate is required before he/she can attend the school again.

17. DRESS CODE

The girls have grey pinafore and the boys wear white shirt with grey shorts. • The white socks and black shoes should be worn along with the grey uniforms. • The P.E. uniform should be worn on the specified days as per the class time table. • They should be accompanied by white socks and white/black shoes. • The girls are NOT ALLOWED coloured hair pins or any other coloured hair accessories. Black and white are the only approved colours.

19. Girls should avoid wearing long chains/necklaces , long earrings and even nail polish. • It is important that the child comes neatly dressed in clean uniforms to the school. You, parents are responsible for the personal hygiene of the ward viz regular bathing habits, clipping of nails, neatly combed hair, good eating habits………….

20. The school bag and the books The bag should contain books as per the time table. The almanac has to be checked everyday by the parents. All the supplies needed in the class room for various activities, should be bought regularly to the school. For e.g. Glue sticks, a pack of coloured pencils, other writing tools and necessities.

21. The Almanac/The school calendar • The first two pages should be filled for the general information of the child along with the photograph. • The Page no-136 should be filled for the details of any medical condition of the child. • The Page nos-138/139 are for notes of absence. • The Page nos-140 to 144 are for correspondence between home and school. • The children will be encouraged to write their daily/weekly home work from Page no. 64 onwards. • The almanac should be maintained throughout the year.

22. EVALUATION and PROMOTION. • As per CBSE guidelines, the children will be continuously and comprehensively evaluated through- • Various criteria set for development of skills, • Participation in group discussions/group activities, • Home assignments and • General behaviour and discipline in the school.

24. REQUEST TO THE PARENTS. FORTHCOMING EVENTS. Wealth out of waste – 22 April, 2014. Send a passport size photograph clicked in uniform to the class teacher. Send a plant/story book to the school on your child’s birthday; instead of a cake.
