  1. How to Interpret TIIA Reports in Nolij TIIA (Turn It In for Admissions) is used to detect potential plagiarism in the Personal Goals Statement (if uploaded with the application online)

  2. Locating the TIIA Report • Log onto Nolij, and search for the specific student. • Click on the appropriate Application folder (Please note: students may have more than one application folder).

  3. If you click on each folder, the Form at the bottom of the Nolij screen will tell you the student’s Academic Program/Plan

  4. On the student’s Data Form in Nolij, there is a box which populates this number (in this example it is 75%). • If this number is equal to 15% or above, there will be an accompanying TIIA Report to view in the folder. • If this number is below 15%, there will not be a TIIA Report to view.

  5. Once you have chosen the correct Application folder, view the documents available. • Double click on the GRAD TIIA report document to open up the document in a separate window.

  6. Interpreting the TIIA Report • The top of the document will give you the students name, review date, and summary information. • This example student has a 75% Similarity Index. This means that of the total words (1,196), 75% of them have been found on external websites. • On this student’s statement, 5 external sources were found in 12 areas throughout the statement.

  7. The beginning of the report will indicate all of the external sources found.

  8. For this first source, 665 words from this statement were found on www.englishforums.com. • These 665 words make up 55% of the submitted statement. • The reference used on www.englishforums.com was published on July 5, 2009. • The TIIA service has 10 years of archived internet data.

  9. The sources are color coded based on each source and where it is located on the document. • The hyperlink of www.englishforums.com is highlighted in red. • Any text found throughout this report that is red will indicate it was found on www.englishforums.com. • The next source listed (www.oppapers.com) is listed in green, and therefore any text throughout the report that is green was found on this external source.

  10. After the sources are summarized at the top of the report, the next section is the full Personal Goal Statement submitted by the student. • The words found on external sources will be highlighted in different colors depending on the source. • Text that appears in black has not been found on external sources and is therefore considered the student’s own original work.
