  2. A Little About Me 4th Year Teaching at St. Bede Taught Previously in New Jersey Teach 6th Grade Homeroom (Religion, Social Studies, Literature, & Spelling/Vocabulary), 7th & 8th Grade Social Studies

  3. Policies • Homework - Unless Otherwise Specified, Homework is Due the Day After it is Assigned. Late Work is Accepted for Partial Credit Until the Chapter Test. • Cheating - Any Kind of Cheating/Plagiarism Will Not Be Tolerated & Will Result in A Zero for the Assignment Without the Possibility of Making it up. • Extra Credit - I Give 1 Extra Credit Assignment Per Trimester (Usually Worth 20 Points.) Students With 3 or More Missing Assignments are not Eligible for Extra Credit. • Demerits - The Junior High has a Demerit Policy. Demerits Include a 15 Minute Detention.

  4. 6th Grade Religion • Textbook - “Christ Our Life” • Topics include: The Bible, The Mystery of Evil, Faith in the Lord, Trust in Providence, Israelites Journey from Slavery to Freedom, God’s Covenant, The Promised Land, Exile • Service Learning Project - 200 Point Project Each Trimester, Students Must Write a Proposal, Complete 2 Hours of Community Service and Write a Reflection, Due Dates are 10/28, 02/16, 05/23

  5. 6th Social Studies • Textbook - “A Message of Ancient Days” • Topics Include: How Cultures and Societies Develop, Mesopotamia & Sumer, Ancient Egypt, Ancient India, Ancient China, Ancient Greece & Ancient Rome • Projects - There Will Be 1 Project Per Trimester • Homework & Tests - There is Homework Only After Each Lesson is Completed (Lessons Take about 2-3 Days), Non-Written Nightly Homework Includes Studying Notes, Rereading the Lesson, Working on Study Guides, Tests & Quizzes are Announced at Least 1 Week in Advance

  6. 6th Literature • Textbook - “Scott Foresman Literature” • Themes Include: Change, Challenges, Relationships, Environment, Justice, Conflict & Resolution • Novels - We Will Read 1 Novel Each Trimester • Accelerated Reader - Students Must Earn 15 Points Per Timester, Due Dates are 11/04, 02/24, 05/23

  7. 6th Spelling/Vocabulary • Textbook - “Vocabulary Workshop” • Each Unit Will Have 4 Assignments From the Textbook, a Vocabulary Test, & a Spelling Test

  8. 7th Grade Social Studies • Textbook: “Across the Centuries” • Topics Include - Age of Exploration, Roman & Byzantine Empires, Roots of Islam, African Empires, Early China, Japan, Feudalism, Crusades, and Renaissance & Reformation • Projects - There Will Be 1 Project Per Trimester • Homework & Tests - There is Homework Only After Each Lesson is Completed (Lessons Take about 2-3 Days), Non-Written Nightly Homework Includes Studying Notes, Rereading the Lesson, Working on Study Guides, Tests & Quizzes are Announced at Least 1 Week in Advance

  9. 8th Grade Social Studies • Textbook - “A More Perfect Union” • Topics Include: Exploration & Settlement of the New World, American Revolution, Constitution, People of the New Nation, Manifest Destiny, Industrial Revolution, Cotton Kingdom, Civil War • Projects - There Will Be 1 Project Per Trimester • Homework & Tests - There is Homework Only After Each Lesson is Completed (Lessons Take about 2-3 Days), Non-Written Nightly Homework Includes Studying Notes, Rereading the Lesson, Working on Study Guides, Tests & Quizzes are Announced at Least 1 Week in Advance • Current Events - 20 Point Oral Presentation on a Current Event From an Assigned Topic

Camp Arroyo • Dates of Camp - April 16th-April 20th, the Week After Easter Break • Mandatory Meeting - Monday, October 24th, 6:30 pm Mandatory Information Meeting For Parents Only • Chaperones & Drivers - We Will Need 2 Chaperones Per Cabin in Order to Attend Camp and Enough Drivers for All Students & Their Belongings at Least 90 Days in Advance or We Will Have to Cancel

Other Info. • Mandatory Concerts & Mass - Christmas (12/15) & Spring Concerts (05/03) are Part of the Music Grade & the 5th & 6th Grade/CCD Mass (03/04) is Part of the Religion Grade, Excuses Must Be Submitted Prior to these Events • Changes in Honor Roll - Students Must Have a B or Higher to Qualify for Honor & Principal’s Honor Role • Requirements for Chaperoning & Volunteering - Chaperones & Volunteers Must Be Fingerprinted, There Must Be 2 Adults Per Vehicle • Website: http://mrsdenison.myteachersite.org • Contact Info: kdenison@csdo.org

Reminders: • Adequate Sleep is Essential for Student Progress & Performance; Students Should Be Getting a Minimum of 8 Hours Sleep Each Night. • A Healthy Breakfast Helps Students Maintain Focus and Energy Throughout the School Day. • School Begins at 8:00; Students Who Arrive After 8:05 Must Go to the Office For a Tardy Slip. • Safety Patrol - Students Who Have Safety Patrol Must Be at School By 7:45 • Students Who Arrive to School Before 7:50 & Are Not Supervised By Their Parent/Guardian Will Be Sent to Morning Care.
