  1. Welcome to Second Grade!

  2. Second Grade Expectations • Students follow all school and classroom rules. • Students write homework in agenda and get it signed every night.

  3. Second Grade Homework • Your child will receive a newsletter on Mondays which will outline the weekly skills and homework. It will also tell about all important events coming up. • Homework listed on the newsletter will be given nightly. Everyone is expected to read each night! • If your child does not complete this for homework, they will be expected to complete it during morning bus duty. They will also have time each afternoon to complete homework in bus duty before coming home.

  4. Missed Work • If a student is absent, he or she has one day for each absence to make up work. • It is county policy that when a student reaches 7 unexcused absences the resource officer may come to your house and bring you to school!

  5. It is IMPORTANT that your child is here ON TIME EVERYDAY! We do not have “extra” time in the school day to make up work, your child may have to stay after school to make up work. TARDY BELL- 8:25 AM DISMISSAL- 2:50 PM If your child leaves before this time, it will be counted as an early dismissal. However, it is much better to have an early dismissal for an appointment than to miss the school day altogether Attendance

  6. Second Grade Discipline Plan • Card system. Everyday students begin on green. As students misbehave they are to pull a card. • 1st Offense-Warning • 2nd Offense-5 mins Recess • 3rd Offense-No recess • 4th Offense- Silent Lunch • **Fighting automatically results in reporting to the office. • **Please let us know if there is anything different going on at home that might affect your child’s behavior (ex. Illness of family member)

  7. Million Word Readers • We had several students make it to a million words by the end of the year last year. They received a special award for this achievement. YOU can achieve this by reading at least250,000 words per semester. This is the equivalent of 1 chapter book a week. Many chapter books have 30,000 words or more. Any books we read as a class are also counted!

  8. 2nd Grade Daily Schedule • 8:25- 10:30- Language Arts • 10:30-11:00- Writing/AR/RTI • 11:00-11:25- Lunch • 11:25-12:00- Bathroom break/Recess • 12:00-12:45- Specials • 12:45-1:45- Math • 1:45-2:45- Science/Social Studies • *We alternate Science and Social Studies so that your child is only studying 3 subjects at a time instead of 4. • *We ask that you let us know at least 1 day ahead if you are bringing cupcakes for a birthday. Please bring them after 2:15 or at lunch time. Thanks
