  2. Personal Development, Health & Physical Education • As we live in a rapidly changing society, there should be an awareness on the importance of living healthy lifestyles. (Board of Studies Syllabus: 2006, pp 6) • PDHPE should be considered of importance to the education system for it teaches children of the importance of being healthy citizens of society, in order to become the future citizens of our community. (Tinning & McCuaig: 2006, pp 4) • Through learning PDHPE, students will Endeavour different situations involved in becoming this healthy citizen in order to teach them how to become members of our future community.

  3. Rationale PDHPE teaches students how to become future members of our community through acknowledging the importance of living healthy. Students who lead a healthy lifestyle have a greater chance of achieving and maintaining their mental, physical, social and spiritual wellbeing. As teachers of these future students we aim to teach them how to become the best they can ever be, achieving their potentials and aiming for success, in hopes that students will become confident and attentive learners of whom in return will become successful members of out community.

PDHPE is an important Key Learning Area According to the PDHPE syllabus PDHPE is an important KLA within the Primary curriculum as it: Encourages an understanding and valuing of self and others Promotes physical activity Emphasises informed decision making leading to effective and responsible action Physical, social, cognitive and emotion growth and development patterns. The development and maintenance of positive interpersonal relationships The factors influencing personal health choices Living and learning in a safe secure environment The adoption of an active lifestyle Fundamental movement patterns and coordinated actions of the body Skills that enable action for better health and movement outcomes (Board of Studies Syllabus: 2006)

  5. OUR ADVOCACY We aim to advocate the need to have PDHPE in the school curriculum of our educational system in order to develop in each student the knowledge and understanding, skills and values and attitudes needed to lead healthy, active and fulfilling lives. In achieving this goal we have hopes that the future of our country is in the hands of successful and competent citizens.
