Definition • Reverent honor and homage paid to God or a sacred personage, or to any object regarded as sacred • To honor with extravagant love and extreme submission, as a lover; to adore; to idolize • Adoring, reverence or regard • Several Greek words used in the NT are translated worship. The involve acknowledgement, praise, thanksgiving & service.

  3. Who do we worship? • Luke 4:13 • We Worship God Why do we worship? • Because it is a command of God • Because of Who He is • Because of what He has done on the cross & in our lives

  4. Worship • Is Directed towards God • Is a lifestyle • Is done everywhere • Participation event (active) • Flows out of Relationship • Is love expressed

  5. Created to Worship • Isaiah 43:7 says, "Everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory(honor); I have formed him, yes, I have made him. Unacceptable worship • Focus is on oneself

  6. First mention of the word Worship in the Bible • Genesis 22 - READ • Worship is Sacrifice • “Where there is no sacrifice; there is no true worship” • What's the most common misperception about worship? That it's synonymous with music.

  7. True Worship • Read John 4 • Her sin was exposed, she needs to make a sacrifice that’s why she asked where should I worship? • Mt. Gerizim or Mt. Jerusalem • 2 things God looks for • Lost • God seeks true worshippers • Worship here is pros-koo-neh'-o • From G4314 and probably a derivative of G2965 (meaning to kiss, like a dog licking his master’s hand); to fawn or crouch to, that is, (literally or figuratively) prostrate oneself in homage (do reverence to, adore): - worship.

  8. Worship in Spirit and in Truth • 1. In Spirit – pneuma(intuition, communion and conscience) • - Man’s vertical window • Not about locality, not through the 5 senses • Its about your spirit connecting with God • Overview of the Old Testament

  9. True Worship • 2. In Truth – aletheia • - The unveiled reality lying at the basis • Not a mere appearance without reality, but substance • You see it for what it really is • No longer type or shadow but substance of who Jesus is

  10. Romans 12:1 Read Living sacrifice – reasonable service or act of worship 1 Corinthians 10:30 …whatever you do, do it all for the glory (praise, honor, worship) of God.

  11. Ways we worship God • Creative Expressions (Music, Arts etc.) - discuss • Giving (stewardship) • Ministry – service • etc
