  1. Worship Walking in the Spirit

  2. Walking in the spirit • Jesus had quite a bit to say about walking in the spirit, most of it is hidden in parables. • Throughout history, men have researched these mysteries and in some way, mastered them.

  3. Some books of recommended reading • Brother Lawrence – The Practice of the Presence of God – Written in the 1600 • Watchman Nee - THE BREAKING OF THE OUTER MAN AND THE RELEASE OF THE SPIRIT • Anything by Andrew Murray or A. W. Towser

  4. What does it mean to walk in the spirit?. • We must walk in the Spirit to worship, both in Spirit and Truth • Before we begin, one thing must be said.

  5. Deu 30:19-20 MSG I call Heaven and Earth to witness against you today: I place before you Life and Death, Blessing and Curse. Choose life so that you and your children will live. (20) And love GOD, your God, listening obediently to him, firmly embracing him. Oh yes, he is life itself, a long life settled on the soil that GOD, your God, promised to give your ancestors, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

  6. Rev 1:6 KJVR And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

  7. King • You are responsible for the safety, health, teaching and welfare of all the people within your domain.

  8. Priest • You are responsible to stand before God and make intercession on the behalf of all the people in your domain.

  9. How many accept the responsibility of the king and priest that you are created to be?

  10. God has specifically placed men who seek his face and bring his word, to fully equip you for the task of being this king and priest. • 2Ti 3:16-17 KJVR All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (17) That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

  11. How many have received these instructions not as a interesting lesson, but draw them into their hearts as inspired Word and pull from them life to care for the people under their watch? • How many have neglected this precious word in favor of “stuff”.

  12. Hos 4:6 KJVR My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge:

  13. Hos 4:6 KJVR My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge,

  14. Hos 4:6 KJVR My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

  15. Every teaching that comes from the mouth of God is both a blessing and a cursing A blessing if you will receive it and apply it A cursing if you hear, but don’t listen.

  16. Worship Walking in the Spirit (Continued)

  17. Rom 8:6-8 AMP Now the mind of the flesh [which is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit] is death [death that comprises all the miseries arising from sin, both here and hereafter]. But the mind of the [Holy] Spirit is life and [soul] peace [both now and forever]. (7) [That is] because the mind of the flesh [with its carnal thoughts and purposes] is hostile to God, for it does not submit itself to God's Law; indeed it cannot. (8) So then those who are living the life of the flesh [catering to the appetites and impulses of their carnal nature] cannot please or satisfy God, or be acceptable to Him

  18. The Body Carnal Man (Mind / Soul) The Sprit The Voice of God

  19. In order for the spirit to communicate with His Spirit, the carnal man must step aside and allow that to happen. • This is the nature of walking in the spirit. • Any questions?

  20. Why are we looking at this? • We learned last week about Truth and the importance of Truth. • Now we need to add Spirit to Truth, for without both of them, we cannot worship.

  21. Growing in your spiritual walk takes time and cannot be rushed. • It is not something that can be rushed or forced. • Mat 11:12 MSG For a long time now people have tried to force themselves into God's kingdom.

  22. Mar 4:26-29 MSG Then Jesus said, "God's kingdom is like seed thrown on a field by a man (27) who then goes to bed and forgets about it. The seed sprouts and grows--he has no idea how it happens. (28) The earth does it all without his help: first a green stem of grass, then a bud, then the ripened grain. (29) When the grain is fully formed, he reaps--harvest time!

  23. Your thinking has to transform into something that is acceptable to God – not forced • We understand that God looks on the heart, and judges the heart above everything else.

  24. Gal 5:22-23 KJVR But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, (23) Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. • What happens if we “force” the fruit?

  25. What is being “covered up” if we force the fruit out? • Gal 5:19-21 KJVR Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, (20) Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, (21) Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: … that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

  26. Instead of trying to make “fruit” appear, would it not be better to instead repent and then obey the Word? • The hard part about obeying the Word is the transformation of your thoughts into thoughts acceptable to Jesus.

  27. Look at the life of Peter • The apostles had just recently returned from their trip where they cast out devils and healed people by the power of Jesus name. • Jesus asked a question of the disciples • Mat 16:15 KJVR He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

  28. Mat 16:21 MSG Then Jesus made it clear to his disciples that it was now necessary for him to go to Jerusalem, submit to an ordeal of suffering at the hands of the religious leaders, be killed, and then on the third day be raised up alive. • Mat 16:22 MSG Peter took him in hand, protesting, "Impossible, Master! That can never be!"

  29. What do you think of Peter for doing this? • Mat 16:23 MSG But Jesus didn't swerve. "Peter, get out of my way. Satan, get lost. You have no idea how God works." • In one instance Peter is king, the next he is the devil.

  30. But was he really? Where did the real problem lie? • Rom 8:7-8 GNB And so people become enemies of God when they are controlled by their human nature; for they do not obey God's law, and in fact they cannot obey it. (8) Those who obey their human nature cannot please God.

  31. We are aware that listening to carnal mind will cause us to die, but how do you avoid it? • Paul wrote Rom 7:23-24 ASV (23) but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members. (24) Wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me out of the body of this death?

  32. What you have to do is learn how to transform your thinking, to press away from you the things that cause you to stray. • You will find that it is not necessary to seek after God, he will seek after you if you can unlearn how to listen to yourself. • A few important steps

  33. Php 4:4-5 MSG Celebrate God all day, every day. I mean, revel in him! (5) Make it as clear as you can to all you meet that you're on their side, working with them and not against them. Help them see that the Master is about to arrive. He could show up any minute! • When you mind wanders onto other things, bring it back to the presence of God.

  34. Jas 5:7-10 MSG Meanwhile, friends, wait patiently for the Master's Arrival. You see farmers do this all the time, waiting for their valuable crops to mature, patiently letting the rain do its slow but sure work. (8) Be patient like that. Stay steady and strong. The Master could arrive at any time. (9) Friends, don't complain about each other. A far greater complaint could be lodged against you, you know. The Judge is standing just around the corner.

  35. Php 4:6-7 MSG Don't fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. (7) Before you know it, a sense of God's wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It's wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

  36. Rom 8:24-25 MSG That is why waiting does not diminish us, any more than waiting diminishes a pregnant mother. We are enlarged in the waiting. We, of course, don't see what is enlarging us. (25) But the longer we wait, the larger we become, and the more joyful our expectancy.

  37. Php4:8 MSG Summing it all up, friends, I'd say you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious--the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.

  38. Php 4:8-9 MSG Summing it all up, friends, I'd say you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious--the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. (9) Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.

  39. Walking in the Spirit is not so much walking in the Spirit as it is refusing to walk in the flesh. • You get yourself to a point where you really understand what is meant by “Joh 4:23-24 CEV …These are the ones the Father is seeking to worship him.
