SSV’s 3rd Big Water Reuse Event March 2015– Launched water reuse initiative at SCVWD HQ Conversation on onsite water reuse has evolved • September 2015 – Introduced the community to onsite reuse • May 2016 – At Intuit over 250 attendees learned about tech companies initiatives on their campuses and hurdles to onsite reuse Today: Focusing on opportunities • Panel 1— New model ordinance • Panel 2 — Innovative financing • Connect & collaborate throughout the day

Intelligent Water REuse Initiative Where/why we started, where we are now and where we are going… Goal: To ensure the Bay Area has a resilient water supply Maintain the Region’s— • High quality of life • Continued economic success Provide enough water for everyone… residents, businesses and natural habitats

  14. Water Initiative: Risk Three Primary Reasons why our water resilience is at risk: • Climate change—supply and snow pack storage • Population growth--demand • Dependence on Imported Water— Santa Clara County: Fifty-five Percent San Mateo County: Ninety-one Percent

  17. SSV’s Intelligent Water Reuse Initiative Where we started… March 2015 Launched SSV’s Water Initiative—Focus Onsite Reuse, part of a holistic approach to resilience Dinner meeting at SCVWD introduced on site reuse to our community • Education • Projects • Policy

  19. Projects: Huge Progress • Facebook’s campus extension with a blackwater system was passed unanimously by the city council • Reuse systems for new buildings are currently being designed in both counties • Eco Garden at Ecumenical Hunger Project’s EPA

Water: Policy Local • An Draft Model Ordinance released this week • Santa Clara County included on-site water reuse in 2017 proposed budget • Menlo Park passed Tuesday their general plan with a requirement for reuse systems in buildings over 250,000 sq feet • Portola Valley is considering an ordinance requiring home to have dual plumbing and/or recycled water State • Governor’s OPR Reuse Summit: Sept • Letters of Support for bills

Next Steps A Model Community for Water Resilience with a vibrant reuse ecosystem • Education—Publicoutreach • Projects—many more • Policy—local ordinances and state goals • Data-- Case Study On Line Data Base Pacific Institute Joint Project Plans to Create a technical document to explore opportunities to expand on-site reuse
