Study Programmes • Implemented in September 2013, replacing Foundation Learning Provision • Based on recommendations made by Professor Alison Wolf • For all learners 16-19 and include all levels, up to level 3 • Individualised learning programmes to support progression to further education, training or employment

  3. Benefits of Study Programmes • Employability skills – work experience and traineeships • Breadth, depth and progression • Higher value post-16 vocational qualifications • Raising standards in post-16 English and mathematics – GCSE A*-C or Level 2 • Impartial careers guidance

Funding of Study Programmes • Funding per student (min 540 hours per year) • Enhanced by a programme cost weighting • A retention factor will reduce funding if the student is not retained to the end of the study programme for that academic year • Area costs adjustment where necessary • Additional funding for students with learning difficulties or disabilities (IMD and ALS) • Formula Protection Funding (FPF) will be paid for at least 3 academic years (until end of 2015/16) • A phased conditions of funding will be implemented to allow institutions time to change provision to deliver English and Maths

Apprenticeships • Apprenticeships are a Framework of qualifications achieved while in employment • 16 and above (no upper limit) • 200+ options but not all available in Suffolk • Intermediate, Advanced and Higher Levels • Minimum of 12 months (16-18) • Vacancies advertised on range of websites • NAS AV http://www.apprenticeships.org.uk/ • The Source http://www.thesource.me.uk/ • Provider own websites

Apprenticeships • Competency element (NVQ type qualification) • Knowledge element (Externally assessed) • English and Maths Functional Skills • ICT Functional Skill in some • Employment Rights and Responsibilities • PLTS • Additional qualifications in some frameworks • Mix of On- and Off- the job training

  8. Apprenticeships • Not just traditional crafts • Options to progress to Advanced (L3) and Higher (L4+) and beyond to HE • Must be paid at least Apprenticeship Wage (£2.68ph) • 30 hours per week

Apprenticeships • Best way to apply is via NAS website • Make sure application is perfect – no txt spk • Send a cv to providers as well • Register with Providers to get email updates • Attend pre-employment sessions • Dress appropriately (my pet hate is baseball caps indoors) • Have questions to ask employers at interview • Ask for help from the Provider • Follow Providers/NAS/AppsinSuffolk on FB/Twitter #youknowitmakessense • Communicate – answer calls/txts/emails promptly

  10. Traineeships • Introduced Summer 2013 • 16-24 age band • Maximum 24 weeks • Up to 5 months work experience • Must include employability skills and work towards English and Maths to Level 2 • For those “closer to the labour market”

Traineeships • Only available from Ofsted Grade 1 and 2 providers at present • Limited options this academic year but expect more from August 2014 as late introduction hampered planning • Bursary Funding rules apply as per Study Programme • Places can be advertised/found on NAS AV website as per Apprenticeships
