  36. Making Learning Stick • Learn • Repeat • Repeat • Repeat • Repeat

  37. How to Revise • Choose a topic to study • Start by testing yourself • Identify areas of weakness • Focus on improving these areas • Re-test understanding • Clarify any remaining misunderstanding • Move on to the next topic

  38. The (Re)Testing Effect • Revision shouldn’t be ‘comfortable’ • revising areas you already know leads to overconfidence and self-delusion • ‘Effortful retrieval’ of information: • strengthens memory pathways • enhances long-term memory • Pupils using repeated re-testing can recall 50 % more than those who use repeated study.

  39. Maths example

  40. GCSE Pod • PTA-funded school subscription • Individual pupil log-ins • Teachers can set tasks for pupils • Pupils can search for and watch podcasts on areas of difficulty • Part of the revision process

  45. What next? • Attend open evenings/days/taster sessions • Meeting deadlines for courses is vital • The more training and qualifications you have the better your chances of getting and keeping a job that you enjoy • Be positive and confident and well informed and you will make the correct choices for your future
