  1. EuroSkills and EWT(Electronics Workshop Team) Why new trade proposal? On the basis of the experiences gained through the ModVoc project, we started to develop a new competition trade for the EuroSkills competition making use of the knowledge gained through the previous competition experiences. The requirements for the implementation of the EuroSkills trades are in spirit of the ModVoc studies in other respects as well. How? By means of the project, we have developed trade descriptions for the use of national and international vocational skills competitions with the aim of modifying the content and form of the tasks of the traditional global WS competition to better meet the skills requirements of the European industry.

  2. EuroSkills and EWT(Electronics Workshop Team) Type of competition Design, alteration and assembly of an electronic device to be carried out by a team of two people Central content of the task The assembly of an individual electronic device equipped with an embedded system or the alteration of a working device to satisfy the demands of the customer better.

  3. EuroSkills and EWT(Electronics Workshop Team) • Technical description headlines: • Assembly mechanical units and testing basic driving electronics • Design and Assembly of extended driving electronics and testing main function (unit included an embedded system (AVR microcontroller kit) • Programming of equipment whit C language • Final Testing and improving of system performance

  4. EuroSkills and EWT (electronics workshop team) Examples:In Demo presentation 15-17.3.2007 Rotterdam we use following system Main mechanics: Assa-Abloy safety box automatic door unit. Driving electronics: Deltabit Gatekeeper access control system based on biometric fingerprint identification.

  5. EuroSkills and EWT (electronics workshop team) Examples of devices: Final competition Septemper 2008: Testing and control systems in electronic industries Nokia

  6. EuroSkills and EWT(Electronics Workshop Team) How we do competition? Job description: The task will be assigned to the competitors as a work order. The customer wants the device to perform certain operations or the old device should gain new properties. The job description is based on a written document that will be supplemented with an oral explanation. Interaction: The competitors will have 15 to 30 minutes to acquaint themselves with the material, whereupon they gather together for a common meeting where they have to put questions in English to the person that set the task.

  7. EuroSkills and EWT(Electronics Workshop Team) Accomplishment of the task: The accomplishment of the task will be divided into modules (phases). After each module the competitors will get feedback on their performance. One of the modules contains a demonstration, where the competing pair demonstrates the operation of the device to the jury (and the audience) and explains their solutions in English. There will be a break in the competition during the account, and the working partners will take turns at performing the demonstration. The other pairs are not allowed to follow the demonstration.

  8. EuroSkills and EWT(Electronics Workshop Team) Evaluation: The evaluation is based on three main areas: 1. Fulfilling the technical specifications given by the customer (performance, functionality) 2. The economical and ecological properties of the solutions 3. The performance of the group during the demonstrations and communicative situations 4. The quality and clarity of the documentation produced by the group

  9. EuroSkills and EWT(Electronics Workshop Team) • Technical facts • 1. Step motor Card • Eurosize card with driving electronics for both step motors. • X-direction Type M061-LE08, 24 V unipolar, needs bridge driver 3,8 A • Y-direction Type Sonceboz 6550-23-2-3R018, 24 V, unipolar, needs bridge driver • 2. Opto-coupler card with 5V regulators • the card is needed mainly for sensor signals and regulators • In mechanical part there are 4 pcs optical and 3 pcs inductive sensor plus 10 reed relies. • 3. Pneumatic valve driving card • 8 pcs solenoid valves (24 V /100 mA) • 4. Embedded system card • AVR -card

  10. EuroSkills and EWT(Electronics Workshop Team) Competition phase A. Assembling and commissioning of an electromechanical device The task includes mechanical assembling, wiring and mounting of ready-made electronic cards. Finally the basic functions of the equipment will be tested In phase A competitor teams will assembly ready made cards 1-3 and test the basic functions of electrical and mechanical parts.

  11. EuroSkills and EWT(Electronics Workshop Team) Competition phase B Design and building of extended electronics The task involves completing of a given circuit diagram with a missing part of design. This design can be done with the help of a simulation program. After that the competitor will have to make the layout of a circuit board on the basis of the given circuit diagram using a CAD program. The picture of this layout will be printed on paper for evaluation, and the design will be transformed into a Gerber file for the circuit board milling machine. The circuit board itself will be made by the circuit board milling machine. After the milling the circuit card will be assembled and tested. Competitor teams have e.g. to add some sensors and driving electronics to the basic unit. They have to do small scale electronic design and printed board design for the new part of electronics. When the card is ready it will be assembled and the function of the whole new system has to be tested.

  12. EuroSkills and EWT(Electronics Workshop Team) Competition phaseC Programming of extended electronics The extended electronics will be controlled with embedded system. The task is to design a C language control program that makes the electromechanical equipment to function according to given specifications under the control of connection electronics. The task can be done so that the teams can start with a ready made basic program which needs to be altered with some new functions. The teams have do programming of the mechanical unit e.g. with following functions robohand needs to be moved to vertical and horizontal directions robohand has to push mobile phone buttons and do some works: - moving the phone to on/off positions - making of text messages (sms) and sending them to mobile phone numbers or to the TFT-screens which are seen by public.

  13. EuroSkills and EWT(Electronics Workshop Team) Competition phase D Final testing and adjustment The whole system will be put to use and tested. The final adjustment will define additional requirements for the performance that will call for slight changes both in structure and performance. The teams have to improve system performance and also do presentation about teams work.
