  3. Preamble • States the purpose of a document

  4. Articles • Identifies and authorizes the 3 branches of government

  5. Amendments • Formal changes to the constitution

  6. Supremacy Clause • States that the constitution is the highest (“Supreme”) law of the land

  7. Limited Government • Government is constrained by a set of laws

  8. Executive Branch • President • Cabinet

  9. Legislative Branch • Congress (Senate and the House of Representatives)

  10. Judicial Branch • Supreme Court • US Court of Appeals • US District Court

  11. Bicameral • Two Houses

  12. Veto • President’s power to deny a bill

  13. Pocket Veto • President’s power to kill a bill, if Congress is not in session, by not signing it for 10 days

  14. Judicial Review • Judicial power to review laws to determine if they are unconstitutional

  16. Enumerated Powers • Powers granted to the national government

  17. Reserved Powers • Powers granted to state governments

  18. Concurrent Powers • Powers shared by both national and state governments
