  2. Abstract - ADJ • Not concrete; theoretical • Numbers are abstract, but they can be represented by symbols.

  3. Contentious - ADJ Quarrelsome; causing quarrels Jean seems to be a naturally contentious person; I said that weather seems fine today and she replied that it wasn’t true because there were some clouds in the sky.

  4. Deride - Verb • Ridicule; make fun of • Some people deride the study of art as a waste of time.

  5. Extricate - Verb • Free; disentangle • Many countries are reluctant to commit troop in foreign conflicts because it is often difficult to extricate them.

  6. Incongruous - ADJ • Not fitting; absurd • That house built in the design of a ski lodge looks incongruous out here in Macon.

  7. Vaporize – Verb • Turn into vapor • At the end of the science fiction movie, the hero fired a gigantic ray gun at the hostile aliens, vaporizing them.
