  3. Acknowledgement of Country As we begin, I take the opportunity to acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora nation who are the traditional custodians on whose ancestral lands we are meeting. We recognize the deep feelings of attachment and relationship of Aboriginal peoples to country and pay respect to the cultural authority and traditions they have gifted this place.

  5. YEAR 12 PRIVILEGES • Year 12 – Final year • Use of a car as a Waverley Senior - privilege • Study periods. • Charing Cross & lunchtime • Year 12 Tie, Uniform, Blazer, Black shoes

  6. SOME OF THE DANGERS • Non-school sports or activities / hobbies • Too many friends !! • Cars / other distractions • Jobs - ask why working ? • Friends who are not students • Lack of good routine / Study habits (Minimum of 3hrs / night) • Weekend time

  7. NORMAL SCHOOL EXPECTATIONS • Be at school every day • Be attentive in all classes • Complete all set/ required work / assignments • Be co-operative and have a positive attitude • Fulfill all your responsibilities • Treat younger boys well • Value the time, effort & money placed in you

  11. A FEW REMINDERS • Classes continue until Thursday 3rd December 2009 • There will be an interim report and interviews with teachers in February 2010 – these interviews are extremely important and each boy and his parents need to attend.

  12. Documents Tonight you will receive: 1.Yr 11 2009 Final Reports. 2. Term 4 Assessment Schedule 3. BOS Examination Rules and Procedures Next week you will receive: . Waverley College HSC Assessment Booklet

  13. The Assessment Information • Board of Studies requirements • Waverley College Policy • Assessment Grids for each subject • Sample Illness/Misadventure Form • Flowchart explaining what to do

  14. A Summary • A student must attempt ALL Assessments. • Failure to do so will result in a zero or 30% per day penalty for a submission. • A substantiated reason must be provided. e.g. Doctor’s Certificate.

  15. Illness/Misadventure • If a student’s performance is affected in an Assessment Task he should complete an Illness/Misadventure form. • This is handed to the Head of Department. • Performance in this task (mark & rank) would be compared against performance in all and / or similar Assessment Tasks at the end of the course.

  19. Year 12 Retreat • This activity is compulsory • Three venues • Wednesday 4th November to Friday 6th November 2009 • Information for the Retreat is to be collected with the report envelope. • Sport on Saturday 7th November is as normal.

  21. The pattern of Year 12 • Complete Term 4 2009  Summer break • In the last few weeks of January, start to think school. • Refocus. • Term 1. • ‘Stu-vac’ before Mid-Semester Exams. All exams are Assessment Tasks. • This break is not a holiday.

  22. The pattern, continued … • Term 2 • Term 3  Trial HSC • HSC preparation. • End of Term 3, Graduation and Formal in the last week. • Revision seminars start towards the end of Term 3 • HSC commences Tuesday 12th October 2010.

  23. Actions and Consequences • All school days are compulsory. • If in doubt, please call me. • When at school, attend all classes. • Do not disturb other classes.

  24. Where to from here … • To the students • You have made the decision to study and complete the Higher School Certificate. • Use your time wisely. • Go out and achieve. • Set yourself a realistic goal.

  25. Where to from here .. • To the parents • You’re still in-charge. • Set realistic parameters. • There will be tough times, but it’s worth it in the end. • Be supportive, even if it hurts. • Don’t be afraid to talk to each other.

  26. Reports • Read the comments carefully. • Act on the advice given. • Ask questions. • Can be collected at the conclusion.

  27. Assessment Tasks • Use your time wisely. • Know when the task is due. • Weighting. • This is a precious document. • Ask questions.

  28. Finally • Confidence. • Look forward towards the end and enjoy the last formal part of your school education. • Give everything your best.
