  5. Year 10 Drama A continuation of MYP 7-9 Drama Preparation for DP Theatre Arts

  6. Theatre in the Making You will devise and plan a range of drama performances You will learn more about: the role of the actor, designer and director elements of production and how they provide technical support in a theatre performance.

  7. Theatre in Performance You will work as a member of a production team to create devised and scripted performances for an audience.

  8. Theatre in the World You will explore a range of theatre traditions and cultural practices from around the world and from different historical periods.

  9. Assessment • You will continue to be assessed using the following assessment criteria: A Knowledge and Understanding B Application C Reflection and Evaluation D Personal Engagement

  10. The Developmental Workbook You will continue to document your progress in your Developmental Workbook. You will be expected to use it to record your own creative process from initial brainstorming and planning, through rehearsals to performance. It is used to assess all four Arts criteria.

  13. Year 10 Music • The essence of Music in Year 10 /11 is that the students have to enjoy making music. • Music is made through composition using the notation software Sibelius and through performance as a soloist and member of an ensemble.

Year 10 Visual Arts • 4 main units of study • In preparation for Year 11 & DP Visual Arts: • students are encouraged to be more self-directed and independent in both their research work and exploring their own ideas • increased class time - concepts and techniques explored at an increasing level of depth • class critiques and opportunities (in class presentations, podcasts, etc) for students to develop confidence to speak about their work • exposure to the work of others – field trips, artists research tasks, visiting artists, visits to student exhibitions of DP work, connections with other schools

  17. Unit 1: Drawing From the RightSide of the Brain • Students begin the year with a unit focused on perception and drawing. • This unit aims to help students improve their skills, by exploring a range of observation and drawing techniques.

  18. Pop Art Students respond to an aspect of popular contemporary culture. The concerns of the 1960’s Pop Art movement and contemporary Asian artists are studied as inspiration for student work. Students document and reflect on the creative process by creating a podcast.

Urban Environment Study • Studying the local environment in Hong Kong, students respond to the physical environment around them in a variety of media and styles to create a portfolio of artworks. • Students are encouraged to consider issues connected to the urban environment, such as globalisation, rapidly changing culture, pollution, population density, changing lifestyles and environmental concerns.

  20. Art in the Community This unit is based on a critical inquiry into how artists have responded to and contributed to their own communities through their work. Students will respond to an artist’s work and ideas, and examine aspects of their own community in a media of their choice.

  23. Subjects are in 6 groups • Students choose a subject from each group • Group 1 – Language A • English and / or Chinese • Group 2 – Language B • Chinese or Spanish

  24. Subjects are grouped (6 groups) • Group 3 – Individuals and Societies (Humanities) • History / Geography / Economics / Business & Management • Group 4 – Experimental Sciences • Chemistry / Physics / Biology / Environmental Systems and Societies / Sports Science tbc / Design Technology

  25. Subjects are grouped (6 groups) • Group 5 – Maths and Computer Science • Maths (3 different classes) • Group 6 – Arts / Second Science / Second Humanities / Third Language • Visual Art / Theatre Arts / Music / Science / Humanities / Third Language

  26. Higher Level (HL) vs Standard Level (SL) Students will study courses at either HL or SL HL courses – 240 hours, SL Courses - 150 hours Some HL have greater depth / breadth Some HL have additional content HL courses chosen are normally for pursuit at University

  27. Awarding a Diploma • Six subjects – • each with a maximum score of ‘7’ • maximum of ‘42pts’ • Extended Essay / Theory of Knowledge • Combined score out of ‘3’ • Maximum DP score ‘45’
