THE ITALIAN SCHOOL SYSTEM • In Italy there are state school and state-recognized school or private school at each level of the education system. • The Ministero dell’Istruzione, dell’Università e della Ricerca (Ministry of Education, University and Research) is the responsible of the overall school education

THE ITALIAN SCHOOL SYSTEM • At the end of Lower secondary school, which completes the first school cycle, students take a state examination to be admitted to the upper secondary education level. • Upper secondary schools are articulated in several lines of education. LICEO – Liceo Classico Liceo Scientifico Liceo Linguistico Liceo delle Scienze Umane Liceo Artistico Liceo Musicale e Coreutico The lenght of each Liceo is 5 years

THE ITALIAN SCHOOL SYSTEM • Technical Education- Istituto Tecnico (There are several different courses in Technical Education: Building Surveying and Construction, Computer Technology, Electronics, Electrotechnics, Mechanic and Energy, Industrial Automation, Commercial, Administrative, Graphic Arts, Agricultural, Tourism and Marketing, etc) Vocational Education - Istituto Professionale 5 years IeFP 3 + 1 + 1 (There are several different courses in Vocational Education: Agricultural, Hotel Trading and Catering, Commercial, Industrial, Mechanical, Administrative, Social Services)

THE ITALIAN SCHOOL SYSTEM • ITS (Istruzione Tecnica Superiore) are realized according to the organizational model of the Foundation of participation in collaboration with companies, universities/scientific and technological research centers, local authorities, education and training systems. They have a duration of two or three years (4/6 semesters - for a total of 1800/2000 hours). The internship is compulsory for 30% of the total hours and at least 50% of the teachers come from the world of work.

THE ITALIAN SCHOOL SYSTEM • IFTS (Istruzione e Formazione Tecnica Superiore) • Training and Higher Technical Training is an integrated training channel (realized in collaboration between the School, University, Enterprise, Training Agencies) for the training of Specialized Technicians, post-secondary professional figures, responding to the demand coming from the world of public and private work .
