  1. Senior English 10/15/12 • In what ways could reading literature help you understand the real world? • What runs around the cow pasture but never moves? • Misogyny – Male hatred of females. Goals –Understand why you should care about this assignment. Debate some big ideas related to Brave New World. Check out books begin reading Chapters 1-3. Homework – Don’t forget the Vocab Quiz 8 Friday.

  2. Senior English 10/16/12 • What sorts of categories or qualities describe your identity? Male/female? Rich/poor? Anglo/Hispanic? Etc. • What kind of bugs do knights fight? • Misandry – Female hatred of males. The female equivalent of misogyny. Goals – Find something to interest you in completing Brave New World. Debate a big idea from the book. Homework – be sure to read through chapter 3 for comprehension quiz tomorrow.

  3. Senior English 10/17/12 • Is there anything good about the world that Huxley presents? Is there anything bad with it? • How much do pirates pay for their earrings? • Marcidity – To be extremely skinny. The opposite of obesity. Goals – Discover more possible big ideas in Brave New World. Homework – Chapter 4.

Senior English 10/18/12 • Pick a passage that has rich imagery and make a comment on the effect the imagery has on the meaning of the passage as a whole. • Why did they find bones on the moon? • Gruntle – to put in good humor. Positive opposite of disgruntle. Goals –Focus on close reading and imagery! Read chapter 5 and 6 in class. Any other big ideas? Comprehension quiz chapters 1-3. Homework – Read chapter 5. Prepare for vocabulary quiz.

  5. Senior English 10/19/12 • Five minutes for vocabulary review. • Why did the coach send in the second-string? • Adiabolist – someone who doesn’t believe in the devil. To the devil what an atheist is to God. Goals –Complete vocabulary #8 study. Poem of the week. Homework – Catch up on reading. You should have read through chapter 6 by Monday. There will be a comprehension quiz on Monday.
