  4. The Assembly Street Rail Project We understand there has long been a problem with trains and cars in the surrounding areas of Assembly Street, south of downtown Columbia. We are beginning the NEPA / environmental documentation process to gain input and information on this problem in hopes of finding a solution!

  5. What is the NEPA Process? NEPA stands for the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 This law makes sure we thoroughly evaluate alternatives by considering the negative and beneficial impacts of a project on the environment. human and natural • It also involves gathering input from federal/state agencies • and the public(that’s you!)

  6. How is this Project Funded? environmental documentation The environmental documentation and conceptual engineering phase of the project is funded through federal Congressional Earmark funds and an FRA grant, matched with funding from the City. conceptual engineering Right of Way acquisition and construction funding options may include local pursuit of federal grants, as well as other existing transportation funding resources.
