Criteria for inclusion in MICS4 • Possible to collect through household surveys • Easy to administer • Applicable to significant numbers of countries • Relevant MDG indicators (and other international goals) • UNICEF priority / Continuity with WSC indicators • Interagency agreement on indicators • Well tested validated modules/questions • Should not compromise data quality of other indicators MICS4 Survey Design Workshop

Household questionnaire • Survey Unit: Household • Household: A person, or a group of persons living and eating together • Identify respondent: • knowledgeable adult or mother/primary caretaker of children in household • Single respondent to all modules of the Household Questionnaire MICS4 Survey Design Workshop

  16. Questionnaire for Individual Women • Respondent: • Women age 15-49 • Separate interviews of all women age 15-49 in the household MICS4 Survey Design Workshop

  17. Questionnaire for Children Under Five • Respondent: • Mother or primary caretaker of under-5s living in the household • Mothers/primary caretakersof all children under age 5 living in the household MICS4 Survey Design Workshop

  18. “Do”s and “Don’t”s • Administer household questionnaire to ALL households in the sample • NOT only households with women and/or under-5 children • Administer woman’s questionnaire to ALL women age 15-49 living in sampled households • NOT only one woman per household • Administer Under Five questionnaire to mothers/primary caretakers of ALL under-5s living in household • NOT for only one under five per household • NOT for only under fives whose mothers are in the household MICS4 Survey Design Workshop
