  2. Specification work • Discussed wire order specifications with MWS Wire. • The resistance specification became an issue due to both twisting and elongation changes the values. • I suggested that we require a material certification that provides traceability to actual material used. This was rejected by MWS. • We used “CERTS” for NASA projects. • MWS suggested we accept a test report for each type of wire pair. I think this is about all we can expect from MWS wire. It seems we are the first to ask for acceptance tests of this level. • MWS has not updated their web site with NEMA MW1000-2008 revision. There is some discrepancies between the specifications listed below and the MWS web site. They are, however, minor. • The test reports need minor modifications. • I suggest we modify the specifications to the following line items:

  3. 28 AWG twisted pair specifications • 28 AWG • (1) 28 AWG solid CCA twisted pair, 2 TPI +/- 10% • (2) Insulation is QML. • (3) Material - The core alloy is aluminum 1350 (EC grade) and the cladding alloy is oxygen free copper 102. • (4) CCA bare wire is 10% copper by volume. • (5) Bare wire diameter, 0.0126 plus/minus 0.0001inch • (6) Outer diameter - with insulation, 0.0156 inch < OD < 0.0167 inch [0.396mm < OD < 0.424mm] • (7) One wire colored red, one wire colored green • (8) Resistance prior to twisting, 101.5-105.6 Ohms per 1000 feet @ 20 Degrees C • Reference http://www.mwswire.com/pdf_files/mws_tech_book/clad_metals.pdf • (9) Spool length, 1000 ft -0/+50 ft, No splices in spool. • Spool lengths are to be agreed upon between buyer and seller. • (10) Total length ?? • (11) Test report shall be provided that conforms to the above specifications.

  4. 36 AWG twisted pair specifications • 36 AWG • (1) 36 AWG solid copper twisted pair, 4 TPI +/- 10% • (2) Insulation is QML. • (3) Material - Copper conductor is ETP 99.90% minimum, UNSC11000 • (3) Bare wire diameter, 0.0049 inch < OD < 0.0051 inch • (4) Outer diameter - with insulation, 0.0065 inch < OD < 0.0074 inch [0.165mm < OD < 0.188mm • (5) One wire colored red, one wire colored green • (6) Resistance prior to twisting, 398.7-431.9 Ohms per 1000 feet @ 20C. • Reference http://www.mwswire.com/awgsearch2.asp • (7) Spool length, 1000 ft -0/+50 ft, No splices in spool. • Spool lengths are to be agreed upon between buyer and seller. • (8) Total length ?? • (9) Test report shall be provided that conforms to the above specifications.
