  4. Love: Agape: Sacrifical, self-giving love

  5. Joy: “An inner contentment in the Lord, regardless of circumstances, assuring the Christian that he or she is in the caring hand of God.” “The positive feeling of the whole person that God’s will is being done.”

  6. Peace: an uncomfortable word… Greek: Eirene

  7. Peace: an uncomfortable word… Greek: Eirene Hebrew: Shalom Wholeness Harmony Prosperity Victory

  8. The fruit of the Spirit is PEACE … 1. With Others • Do not take revenge (Rom 12v19) • Love your enemies (Luke 6v27) • Forgive, and you will be forgiven (Luke 6v37)

  9. The fruit of the Spirit is PEACE … 2. Within Ourselves “The mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace” (Rom 8v6) Mind = the seat of reason and thought “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts” (Col 3v15) Heart = seat of decision making + intellectual life

  10. The fruit of the Spirit is PEACE … 3. With God • God made peace through Jesus’ blood, shed on the cross (Col 1 v20) • We receive it by faith in Jesus (Rom 5v1)

  11. The “Shalom” peace that Jesus brings… “Jesus does not come to us to negotiate a truce; he demands our total surrender to his Lordship.” • All authority in heaven and earth is his (Matt 28v18) • Jesus won his victory at the cross (Col 2v15)
