  4. Company Files that come with text • UnZip either the XP set or the Vista set • See top of page 1-5 to see the path to use for the Company Files

  5. Browse if you don’t want to accept the default path • I selected Sample Company Files instead of Company Files to separate real companies from these course companies

  6. Unzip and get 28 files • Remember the path, so you can find them when you open QuickBooks Pro 2008 or 2009 or 2010 • Click OK and then Close WinZip

  7. My Real Companies

  8. A different Company File for each Chapter – Open one of the 28 files! • Note: You will have to Look in: to find the folder where you UnZipped those files

  9. This brings you to the middle of page 1-8 in the text where you will learn about: • Title Bar with Company Name • Navigation Bar & Home Page • Using Single-User Mode • Backing Up and Naming Company Files • Restoring Company Files • Inserting your name in the Company Info

  10. Every time you open a Company file you will be asked to do these 4 steps: • Open the company file • Make a backup copy while renaming • Restore the backup copy • Change the company name in Company Information – be sure to insert your name In real life you will start a Company File once and use it forever, but here we start a new file every chapter. Backing up and restoring are good to learn however.

  11. After steps 1 thru 4 on LMS2 page 2-33 this is your screen shot • Yes, you have to change the file name twice and one more time in Company Info

  12. After LMS2 steps 5 & 6, you will generate four reports for April 1- April 30, 2008: • Unpaid Bills Detail • Vendor Balance Detail • Vendor Contact List • Journal

  13. Select the required report Now we need to change to the required date of April 30, 2008

  14. Now Export your first required report to a new Excel workbook • Unclick explanation worksheet (optional) • Before clicking Export on the Export Report window go to the Advanced tab

  15. In the Advanced tab be sure to Send header to screen in Excel • Now click Export -The new Excel workbook will probably be named Book1 • Change the sheet name in the workbook to Unpaid Vendor Detail • File Save as LMS2_Your_Name to a homework folder on your computer • Close the Excel file before trying to Export the next report

  16. Now Export your 2nd required report to the Excel workbook you already created • You don’t have to go to the Advanced tab, it remembers that you want the header in the sheet

  17. Note the header is showing at the top of the worksheet and the worksheets have been labeled appropriately • Now you are ready to Export the remaining 2 reports…be sure to close the Excel workbook before exporting
