  1. DR Automation for Physical and Virtual InfrastructureSimplify and Enhance VMware Disaster Recovery

  2. FalconStor Solutions Network Storage Server (NSS)Virtual Storage Server Continuous Data Protector (CDP) Unified Backup and Disaster Recovery File-interface Deduplication System (FDS)Deduplication made easy Virtual Tape Library (VTL) with DeduplicationThe fastest, most scalable backup and dedupe on the planet

  3. Cost-effective Replication What does 80% bandwidth reduction equal? Bandwidth Costs*: • Avg cost of a T3 = $4,000 / month • Avg cost of a T1 = $500 / month • 3rd party data reduction appliances: $12k - $100k • Base price • Concurrent connections • Data throughput • X2 or X4 *www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/

  4. MicroScan™ WAN Optimization 512 byte = empty disk sector • Applications and file systems write far more data to disk than actual changes • FalconStor solution scans the changes at a 512 byte disk-sector level and replicates only the changed data • Avoids constant re-sending of duplicate data = data written by application or file system = sector with actual data change 512 byte Disk sectors A typical 8k write of data. Many systems send all 8k or more. FalconStor sends only the truly changed sectors.

  5. Mechanisms to Achieve RTO / RPO

  6. Tools of Data Protection • Data backup to Tape or Disk. • Disk Mirroring of volumes • Disk Snapshots • Application-specific snapshots • Replication • Continuous Data Protection

  7. Conventional Data Protection & Costs • Array functions • Mirrors, Snapshots, Replication • Remote replication license • Remote replication capacity license • Backup & DR Software • OS license; version • Application license; version • D2D license • D2D target license • D2D target capacity license • DR target servers; physical & virtual • DR target storage; license + capacity

  8. Tape & Tape Libraries, Why anymore? • 4mm, 8mm, DDS, LTO-2, LTO-3, LTO-4, LTO-5 • Network: speed, type, volume • Barcode Labels & Readers • Issues: handling, transport, storage

  9. Unified Backup & DR with Instant Availability Mission Critical Apps DR: P2P, P2V Virtual Server CDP-VA Physical Server SQL Exchange SharePoint DB2 Sybase Oracle Notes Data Center FC/iSCSI FC/iSCSI WAN FC/iSCSI Tape Library Backup Server ROBO 255 Bootable Snapshot Recovery Points Instant Availability Eliminate BU Window Many to 1 any-to-any Replication 30 Min. Recovery from Site Failure DR Center

  10. FalconStor® Continuous Data Protector • FalconStor CDP Unifies Backup, Recovery, and DR • Optimized continuous data capture with any-point and snapshot point in-time recovery Physical or Virtual Application Server WindowsUnixLinux FalconStor CDP Writes Data Capture Component FC/iSCSI Reads and Writes Change Journal To DR site Disk Mirror Primary Storage: SAN or DAS Point in Time Snapshots FalconStor CDP does not interfere with the primary storage path 10:00 9:00 8:00

  11. Continuous data capture with multiple options for historical views Combine full CDP with near-CDP snapshots Up to 255 snapshots per volume Continuous Data Capture, Plus Historical Views Example Weekly Snapshots: 4 Full Journaling: 4 hours Hourly Snapshots: 24 Daily Snapshots: 30 • Snapshots can be scheduled as well as created manually • Create readable/writeable view from any point in time

  12. Application-centric Protection Why is application integration important? Because when you recover, you want your data to look like this And not like this

  13. Application Availability Is The Goal • Customer expectations: Service = Applications = $$ • Servers, Applications & Databases • Disasters, Outages = • Loss of Service • Loss of Revenue • Service Recovery: Much more than remote-copy DR

  14. FalconStor®RecoverTrac™ Technology • RecoverTrac technology automates complex, time-consuming and error-prone DR procedures • RecoverTrac technology allows definition of all IT resources; for recovery • Servers • Hypervisors; VMware & Microsoft Hyper-V • Clusters • Storage • Recover sites; local, remote or multiple • Associated IT inventories at recovery sites • RecoverTrac AND remote replication are standard features of FalconStor® Continuous Data Protector (CDP)

  15. RecoverTrac: Automated Disaster Recovery Networking, dependencies & applications online Provision & boot VMs Boot physical servers or hypervisor hosts RecoverTrac Truly Automated DR

  16. Service Oriented Data Protection Continuous Data Protector (CDP) Unified Backup and Disaster Recovery • Mirrors, Journal, Snapshots, Replication • Heterogeneous: platform, networks, array & hypervisor • Application-aware data protection provides instant restore to any point, plus 255 snapshots per LUN • WAN-optimized replication • Integration with VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager & Microsoft Cluster Adapter • Failover & Failback • RecoverTrac™ = Automated DR for P2P, P2V, V2V

  17. RecoverTrac Console

  18. Storage Servers

  19. Hosts and Clusters

  20. Recovery Jobs

  21. Recovery Jobs

  22. Recover Job - Modes

  23. Service Levels for Data Protection • Define protection and recovery policies • Server/group/department/site • Works with existing budgets & equipment • Flexible deployment & implementation options • All-inclusive functionality • Present or future • No per-client or per-server cost component
