  1. Welcome to 6-8 math George Blair tblair@chatham-nj.org

  2. Who am I? • ex Wall Street, 9/11, Canadian, hockey, • 7 years experience as teacher and administrator • Urban/suburban/dean • Live locally-my kids are in middle and high school

  3. Daily Classroom Routine • Homework- checked/reviewed as necessary. Problems/concerns addressed • CMP3. Launch-Explore-Summarize • Emphasis on word problems and higher level thinking. “Basics” are reviewed as necessary

  4. Grading • As per CMS policy: quizzes, tests, homework and classwork/participation • Can have up to 2 quizzes and 1 test per unit • NO credit for late homework-unless I’m emailed with emergency/family situation

  5. Homework • Will be posted on website. Hand in next day for full credit • Used to reinforce concepts taught in class, sometimes it is an extensionof classroom material • Homework questions are taken from CMP3 and often draw on previously taught material from previous years

  6. Expectations for homework • Do your best, TRY- if your child is struggling email me/send me a note- I will work with them/you • Homework is graded on effort, not 100% accuracy. Some nights will be more difficult than others. • I will generally assign 3-4 questions (20 min)

  7. Miscellaneous • I want children to overcome their “fears” of math and(test) anxiety, which can be their biggest obstacle to success • I will work with students who struggle with concepts and don’t like math • Lessons are designed to mirror regular classes to increase self esteem and student knowledge

  8. Communication • Email me if there are questions about homework- I will attempt to get back to you/them the same evening • If you have tips/questions/concerns about your child, let me know • I’m old school- if you would rather talk face-to-face, that’s fine • I generally offer extra help before school please email to make arrangements.
