  1. Time: Topic: 2 Hours AFL Whiteboard 1. Prepare for Learning MLK – I Have a Dream 2. Agree Learning Outcomes Underpinning Elements Resources Students sit on their House Table. Gabrielle Dreams background music on (not video as will detract from message). Students fill the whiteboard to respond to the question written on the board as they walk in ‘how does the song make you feel?’ Share some of the ideas and ask why. Accelerated learning – VAK Thinking for learning Laptop (Blendspace) , whiteboard & pens The Word Cloud featuring Barack Obama. Students discuss some of the words mentioned – ‘which ones stand out as most important to you?’ Laptop (Blendspace) 6. Review– Step back and reflect on your learning Students to consider how they can work together to achieve their dreams. Students write three things on a post-it note to leave on the board ‘Three Things that I can do so that my friends can achieve their Dreams’ – maybe to fill in as speeches are delivered. AFL, Collaborative learning, Thinking for learning Post-its, pens 3. Present New Information Through All The Senses Play the Martin Luther King ‘I Have A Dream’ speech. Students to talk about context and impact that the speech had. ‘Why did MLK feel he had to address the nation?’ and ‘what happened as a result?’ – perhaps students could think about their perceptions of black/white today? Accelerated learning – VAK, Use of ICT, Collaborative learning. Video clip, Laptop (Blendspace) THE TEEP LEARNING CYCLE 5. Apply To Demonstrate Your NewUnderstanding 4. Construct- Activity the search for meaning Students to work individually, and then small groups as they work on their own speech. They practice their powerful and emotive content whilst thinking about eye contact, projection, body language, and pace. At key intervals students deliver their speeches to their tables in order to gain verbal feedback from one another (2 positives, and 1 comment for improvement’). Collaborative learning. Scrolls/Paper, pens Review Word Cloud, talk about which words resonate most strongly with the students. Teacher could model their own I Have A Dream speech, either comical about students or a more serious closer to the heart topic. Eye contact, body language, pace, and projection should be referred to. Students use THINKING HATS (R/Y/G/B as they’re sat in Houses) to feedback on the Teacher’s speech.
