  1. Energy & Waste Management • Energy • Digestive System • Respiratory System • Circulatory System • Waste Management • Excretory System • Digestive System • Respiratory System • Circulatory System • Integumentary System

  2. Energy Flow • Digestive System • From Food to Feces !!! The Digestion Song Function Structures

  3. Energy Flow Digestive System: • 1. We eat … • 2. Food is converted into Nutrients • 3. We poop …! How is food changed into Nutrients? Enzymes

  4. Energy Flow Digestive System: • Enzymes: • Proteins – speed up reactions • Enzyme binds to a Substrates • Attach to food & break it down Video Clip

  5. Energy Flow Digestive System: Structures: • Alimentary Canal • Accessory Organs • Nutrients

  6. Energy Flow Digestive System: Structures: • Alimentary Canal • Mouth • Esophagus • Stomach • Small Intestine • Large Intestine • Rectum • Anus Video Clip

  7. Energy Flow Digestive System: Structures: • Alimentary Canal • Accessory Organs • Teeth • Tongue • Salivary Glands • Pharynx • Liver • Gall bladder • Pancreas

  8. Energy Flow Digestive System: Structures: • Alimentary Canal • Accessory Organs • Nutrients • Carbohydrates –> Potato • Proteins –> Fish & Meat • Lipids -> Chocolate

  9. Energy Flow Digestive System: Nutrients: • Carbohydrates –> Potato • Breaks down to Sugars • Energy (ATP) • Proteins –> Fish & Meat • Breaks down to Amino Acids (building blocks) • For building Muscles, Enzymes & Hormones • Lipids -> Chocolate • Break down Fats • For Energy & Vitamins

  10. Energy & Waste Management • Energy • Digestive System -> DONE !!!! • Respiratory System • Circulatory System • Waste Management • Excretory System • Digestive System • Respiratory System • Circulatory System • Integumentary System

  11. Energy Flow Respiratory System: • Function • Structures

  12. Energy Flow Respiratory System: Function: • Gas Exchange • Oxygen & Carbon dioxide • Exchange occurs between atmosphere & blood

  13. Energy Flow Respiratory System: Structures: • Nose • Pharynx • Trachea • Bronchi • Lungs • Diaphragm Video Clip

  14. Energy & Waste Management • Energy • Digestive System -> DONE !!!! • Respiratory System -> DONE !!!! • Circulatory System • Waste Management • Excretory System • Digestive System • Respiratory System • Circulatory System • Integumentary System

  15. Energy Flow Circulatory System: • Function • Structure

  16. Energy Flow Circulatory System: Functions: • Transportation to cells • Nutrients • Oxygen • Transportation away from cells • Waste • Water • Carbon dioxide • Defense • White Blood Cells – Killer cells

  17. Energy Flow Circulatory System: Structures: • Heart • Arteries – O2 rich blood • Veins – CO2 • Capillaries • Blood • Red Blood Cells carry O2 & CO2 Video Clip

  18. Energy & Waste Management • Energy • Digestive System -> DONE !!!! • Respiratory System -> DONE !!! • Circulatory System -> DONE !! • Waste Management • Excretory System • Digestive System • Respiratory System • Circulatory System • Integumentary System

  19. Big IDEA: Working Together … • Food -> Nutrients(Digestive System) and picked up by the Blood. • Oxygen is picked up by Blood in the Lungs (Respiration System) • Blood (Circulatory System) transports Nutrients: Glucose & Oxygen to cells • So Cells are able to produce ATP Energy in the Mitochondira • CO2, Nitrogen & Feces are released as Waste during the process of making Energy • Blood delivers CO2 to Lungs • Nitrogen waste & extra water is taken to the Kidneys to be released as Urine
