  1. Kinomaage-To teach G’wiikinomaadizomi-We will teach each other

  2. Aanii! Hello! • Camp Kinomaage is a residential camp hosted by the University of Michigan and located at the University of Michigan Biological Station (UMBS) in Pellston, MI. • The camp will run from Aug 11th-15th, 2014 • The camp is FREE for all participants

  3. Campers will be: • Introduced to the science that is happening at the biological station and will perform their own field research activity. • Immersed in Anishinaabelanguage, crafts and music. • Make connections with university students that will mentor students on the benefits of education and college readiness.

  4. The Science Campers will perform field research… Sometimes it is in a field, sometimes in the woods, on boats, in the gorge or along a beach. Most importantly it will be outside and REAL!

  5. Macroinvertebrates along the beach and in the gorge

  6. Water research on the boat with Dr. Vande Koppel or mushrooms in the woods with Dr. Nave

  7. AnishinaabeCulture Anishinaabemowin Learning to speak Ojibwe from our Elders and listening to the stories of our ancestors.

  8. Crafts The opportunity to try Native crafts like Black Ash baskets, beading, birdhouse gourds or corn husk flowers

  9. Music and Dance Campers take lessons on different kinds of dance steps, the significance of the drum and participate in our very own pow wow and feast (complete with a lesson on fry bread..Mmmm!)

  10. College Life University students become mentors and friends, sharing with students what it is like to be in college and what it takes to get there.

  11. Campfires & smores Swimming & Volleyball Time for some fun…

  12. …And time for making new friends!
