  1. How to Help Children Prevent Cavities

  2. Help Children Prevent Cavities • Nobody likes to experience toothache or cavities. More so, little children. You don’t want to see your little ones in pain. • But encouraging them to brush can be challenging at times. Cleaning the mouth isn’t exactly among their favorite activities.  • So, what can you do to help your children prevent cavities?

  3. Here are some Important Tips to Help Children Prevent Cavities:

  4. Watch Dental Care Videos Together • Watch fun, animated videos about dental care while brushing your child’s teeth. • Let them hold their brush if they want to, but be sure to guide their hand as they clean their teeth. • By playing videos they’re interested in, children might not notice the time and will fully engage in brushing.

  5. Use Flavored-Toothpaste • Whether or not your child can already spit on their own, let them use a toothpaste that they love. • For children ages 3 and below, check if the toothpaste is safe-to-swallow. • They might ask you to keep adding more, so be the one to apply the paste on their brush and keep the tub away right after.

  6. Limit Intake of Sweets • There’s no denying that children love sweets. But, you have full control over their meal choices. • You don’t have to keep them from indulging in desserts altogether, but resist giving them more. • It also helps to give them sweets during mealtimes so they can avoid snacking throughout the day.

  7. Encourage Them To Drink More Water • Sweetened beverages and formula can contribute to tooth decay and cavities. • Instead of commercial fruit juices, try to make your own fresh fruit juice. • Encourage them as well to drink more water, especially during meals.

  8. Let Them Use Their Own Utensils • Oral bacteria can be transmitted by sharing utensils. Make it a habit to have your children use their own spoons and forks. • Don’t share with them, even if you’re only trying to taste or check their food for them. • Remind them as well to avoid sharing their utensils with others.

  9. Schedule Dental Cleanings • Bring your child to the dentist by the age of one or as soon as their teeth start to erupt. • Your dentist can examine and monitor the development of your child’s mouth and detect any issues before they develop. • They can also provide dental home care tips if you have special needs or requirements.
