  1. NORTH BY NORTHWEST • Directed by Alfred Hitchcock • Cary Grant plays Roger Thornhill • Eva Marie Saint plays Eve Kendall • Martin Landau plays Leonard • Originally James Stewart was to play Thornhill, but Hitch thought he was too old. • This movie was made in 1959, one of his last movies. • Hitch got the idea from a journalist by the name of Otis L. Guernsey Jr., who heard of a similar story happening in WWII.

  2. Hitch wasn’t allowed to shoot inside the United Nations so he hid cameras to get the views that he wanted and recreated the UN on a sound stage. • The last scene on Mount Rushmore was not real, because again Hitch couldn’t get permission to film on a national monument. • He also shot the scene at the house near Mount Rushmore • Written by Ernest Lehman

  3. Thornhill hides in Eve’s cabin bunk-bed to escape the others. • The two meet on the train, and Eve is secretly working for the bad guys. • The famous scene is where Thornhill is running from the crop dusting plane. • They are climbing on the presidents faces to escape Leonard. • Shot the woodland scene at the Warner Brothers lot. • Hamlet key to title.

  4. Thornhills mother was actually Cary Grant’s mother. • Thornhill appears on the left side of the screen for most of the movie. • Hitch appears at a bus stop at the beginning of the movie. • Hitch made the character of Thornhill hide in the bathroom 3 times in the film. • Cary Grant got paid $450,000. • Phillip VanDamm was originally supposed to be played by Yul Brenner.

  5. Originally Cyd Charisse was to play Eve Kendall. • Cary Grant charged 15 cents for an autograph. • Originally Hitch wanted the title to be “The Man in Lincoln’s Nose.” • James Mason was the real actor who played Phillip VanDamm • Kidnapped by VanDamm thugs thinking he was a man named George kaplan. • Thugs trie to kill him but he escapes.

  6. Thornhill is on the run from the thugs for the rest of the movie. • Meets Eve on a train and falls in love with her. • Eve turns out to be a double agent. • Intelligence agent convinces Thornhill to portray Kaplan for a while longer. • Thornhill fakes his own death to escape. • Little boy anticipates gun shot.

  7. THE END . . . NOW STUDY HARD!!
