  7. ORM

  8. CRM • It is critical that each crew member understands their role in the EMCON scenario, i.e. back-up on radios, inadvertent transmissions, and proper lighting configuration per the formation briefing. This is training, however the next time you do this could be real world and a missed or inadvertent radio call could cost someone their life. • Familiarity with the plan will also ease uncertainty due to unfamiliarity with large formation EMCON restricted profiles.

  42. CELL FORMATION ECHELON RIGHT as tanker • At “POINT ON FLIGHT PLAN”, all Cell #1 members will auto-switch UHF interplane to XXX.X (AR Primary). At “POINT ON FLIGHT PLAN”, all Cell #2 members will auto-switch to YYY.Y UHF #1 (AR Primary), XXX.X UHF #2 (Monitor Cell #1). • At point “X” on CFPS, Cell #1 LEAD will switch TACAN 1 to ##Y, Cell #2 LEAD will switch to ##Y. • When LEAD turns at IP all subsequent aircraft will turn simultaneously.

  43. Note • The question of when to echelon is often asked. Experience has shown that moving to echelon takes roughly :45-50 sec. Moving with your corresponding tanker reinforces TANKER 4/RECEIVER 4, TANKER 3/RECEIVER 3 TANKER 2/RECEIVER 2, TANKER 1/RECEIVER 1 and alleviates confusion. This clarifies positions in the event of odd numbered formations (2vs3, 3vs4 3vs2 ect.) These positions are spelled out in ATP-56B Chapter 2 section D. • Late tankers or overrun situations are compounded once the formation has echeloned because of the lack of maneuverability. • If you elect to maneuver the formation at an action point be sure to thoroughly brief contingencies in the event of weather or late tankers/receivers. Whatever COA, fly the briefed profile first and flex as the mission requires. WINGMEN, BE IN POSITION AND FLY WHAT IS BRIEFED.

  44. CELL FORMATION ECHELON RIGHT PICTURE • As LEAD turns at the IP, subsequent aircraft will turn SIMULTANEOUSLY to their respective HDG CHANGE to intercept FMS offset +20 o +15 o +10 o ~ 1 mile ~ 3 miles ~ 2 miles *xxx course to CP from IP
