  1. Future 8th Graders Registration North Ridge Middle School

  2. What Classes Do I have to take next year? • Language Arts • Math • Social Studies • Science • 6 semesters of electives (on level math) • 8 semesters of electives (PAP math) (year long class = 2 semesters of electives)

  3. Regular Classes or Pre – Advanced Placement Classes • Pre-Advanced Placement Classes: • Courses are more challenging • Take more time • Increased reading load • Sophisticated writing assignments and projects • Summer reading project for all Pre-AP Language Arts classes

  4. Math or PAP Math? • If you are currently taking on level mathyou need to register for on level math for your 8th grade math. Your math class will be a BLOCKED MATH CLASS. • If you are currently taking PAP maththen you need to register for PAP math or Algebra I for your 8th grade year. Your math class WILL NOT BE BLOCKED. On Level Math = 6 semesters of electives PAP Math = 8 semesters of electives

  5. Electives – Year Long Athletics Choir Band Tennis or Gymnastics Select Art BIM Exploring Careers Advanced Theatre Gateway to Technology Principals of Manufacturing Spanish

  6. Electives – Year Long Athletics Competitive team sports requiring time involvement outside the school day. Physical is required ($) Boys – Football, Basketball, Cross Country, and Track Girls – Volleyball, Basketball, Cross Country, and Track

  7. Electives – Year Long Gymnastics/ Tennis – Competitive classes offered before 1st period at the Shannon Center for gymnastics and the Richland Tennis Center for tennis. Parents are responsible for transportation to those facilities. Bus service from the facility to campus provided by the district. Tryouts required. Physical Education– Need two semesters of PE or Athletics in the 7th grade.

Electives – Year Long Band *Play self-owned or school-rented instruments *Private lessons are also offered ($) *Practice time & some extra curricular time is a requirement *Cost for performance attire Choir *Learn fundamental vocal technique and music theory *Some extracurricular time is required outside the school day for concerts *Private lessons are also offered ($) *Cost for performance attire and choir shirt

  9. Electives – Year Long For students who have taken theatre for one of more semesters AdvancedTheatre Select Art This class needs approval from the Teacher!

  10. Electives – Year LongOne Year High School Credit Spanish A very intensive class which includes grammatically correct verbal and written assessments. Students are expected to orally communicate in proper Spanish. (High School graduation requirements: Students need a minimum of 2 years of foreign language for graduation)

  11. Electives – Year LongOne Year High School Credit • Principles of Manufacturing– This Pre-engineering, activity based course is design to introduce the Technology systems of Robotics, Electronics, CNC Manufacturing, Computer Aided Design, Light & Lasers and more in a modular learning environment. • Gateway to Technology- This Pre-engineering , activity based course is a separate course offering from Project Lead the Way which extends and enhances the contents of the Technology systems course and is offered at the middle schools as an introduction to the later high school courses. Need a strong math/science background. For students who are interested in technology/engineering fields.

  12. Electives – Year LongOne Year High School Credit Business Information Management I– Students will apply technical skills through word-processing, spreadsheet, database, and electronic presentation software.

  13. Electives – One Semester Digital Basics *Learn how computers work and file management *Learn a variety of software including PhotoShop, Audacity, and MovieMaker *Opportunity to improve on keyboarding skills

  14. Electives – One Semester Theatre – Students learn the mechanics of stage production and actually perform in a play. Art – Introductory class for those students who have never taken Art before.

  15. Electives – One Semester Career Technology Education (Wood Shop)– Students learn to operate machinery. Design and construct projects. Introductory class ($) for materials Exploring Careers - An educational/career exploratory course receiving one-half credit for high school as an elective. Students develop employability skills, explore educational and career opportunities in their interest area, and build electronic portfolios including 4-year plans.

When is the registration form due back? • Return your registration form back to Mr. Davis or Mrs. Thompson by February 25, 2013. • Students will go to the computer lab on February 26, 2013 to register for your classes.
