  4. MIDDLE SCHOOL VS. HIGH SCHOOL • School starts earlier 7:45am☹….but gets out earlier 2:15pm☺! • BIGGER (2200 students, 2-floors etc.) • More Options (classes, clubs, sports etc.) • 2 semesters--Your schedule only changes 1 time. • 2 lunches (not by grade level--closed campus) • You need CREDITS to graduate High School. We do not give you a diploma if you do not meet your requirements.

HOW DO I GRADUATE HIGH SCHOOL? • What are CREDITS??? • Every class counts as .5 credit • If I get an “A, B, C or even a D” in a class, I earn .5 credit. • How many credits do I need to graduate? • 24 CREDITS (48 CLASSES passed with a D or above) • Just any 48 classes??? • No, you have certain classes you HAVE to take and pass to graduate.

  12. Personalized Pathway (See Pages 7-8 in Course Catalog for further explanation) • In the first box, please check your plan for after high school (You must check one). This is on Page 7. • In the second box, please check one box that aligns with your career interests or areas you would like to explore. You will find further explanation on Page 8 • We understand that a student’s plan may change, so just check what your plan is is for TODAY.

  13. HEALTH IS REQUIRED 1 Semester of Health is required by the state of Washington. Options: • Check box and take this as a one semester course during your 9th grade year (most common option) Other Options: • 0-hour Health/Wellness • Check box in 0-hour options, and then choose an elective course in section #4 • CVVL • Write in Health/Wellness in the CVVL box to inform us that you are interested in taking this through CVVL. • Still check Health/Wellness box in section #4. We will change your class once your registration is confirmed through CVVL.

  14. CHOOSE ELECTIVES • World Language (Spanish/French/Russian/American Sign Language), Band, Choir etc • Year-long courses. These will take up two boxes/ • For example: Section 5 box 1: Spanish 1A and box 2: Spanish 1B • See provided list for CTE/Fine Arts/PE/or other electives that can be taken by 9th graders. Make sure you put a course in each box.

  15. FRESHMAN CHOICES

CHOOSE YOUR ALTERNATES--VERY IMPORTANT!! • If you do not get your first priority classes, you MUST list alternates on this form. • Please list them in the priority that you would like them. • If you do not return this form, and your schedule is not complete, we will choose course alternates for you.

  17. ZERO HOUR IS NOT REQUIRED • These classes start at 6:45am every day (except Thursdays). • These classes are NOT required! • Why would I take a 0-Hour Course • Not enough room in your schedule to take a Health/Fitness course • To stay in shape for athletics • To earn extra credit

  18. Central Valley Virtual Learning (CVVL) • CVVL is a district-wide program that allows students to take some classes online. • CVVL is not a full-day program, so you cannot take ALL your classes through this program. • If you take CVVL course as a 7th period, there is a cost to taking these courses. • If you take a CVVL course as a part of your 6 period day (5 classes at CV and one class at CVVL), you can take the course for free. • If you are interested in any of your courses through CVVL, please write in the CVVL course you are interested in taking. • By writing the course title, this only informs your counselor of your interest. You MUST fill out the 2019-2020 registration form that can be found in the counseling center. Your counselor will adjust your schedule after you have been enrolled with the course at CVVL.

ONLINE REGISTRATION • Once you have completed your paper registration form, you MUST enter your courses online through your PowerSchool student account. • On the backside of your registration form, you will find step-by-step instructions. • Filling out the registration form will not complete sign-up of for classes at CVHS. You must enter your selections online. • Paper registration form must be completed as well, so we know your alternate course choices!!! You cannot use the PowerSchool APP!   20. FINAL REGISTRATION • CV Counselors will be back at your school exactly one week from today! • After you register online, give your registration sheet to the designated teacher for your building (1st period teacher/math teacher etc.)

  21. WHAT CAN I EXPECT? • March 11th--8th grade visit to CV • LINK Orientation in August • Tours of the building • LINK leaders • Freshmen Bear Essential Day • Lockers • Pictures • Yearbook • ASB & Fees • First Day of School • Only Freshmen until Lunch • Attend each of your classes briefly
