  2. What is livelihoods • How people access resources (land,water, forest soils, fuel wood etc) • What they get in the ways to access the resources • How they exploit the resources to build assets • How these assets reduce vulnerability to stress (ill health, hunger etc)

What is REDD+ • Projects, policies and programs aimed at reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation • conserving, sustainably managing and enhancing forest carbon stocks • The + refers to the recent expansion of the accounting and incentives scope to the later 03 activities. • A development strategy

Mbembe forest Reserve goods and services for the 42, 115 dependent population • Charcoal and firewood for cooking • Pasture for livestock • Bee keeping • Fertile forest soils for farming • 48 trees and 14 herbs used for medicinal purposes • Wildlife for medicine and food • Wood for construction

  5. Possible conservation strategies • Build the capacity of the local population as individuals and grass roots institutions in sustainable livelihood practices Compost Manure

  6. Possible conservation strategies • Encourage and facilitate off farm enterprise development focused on the needs of the rural house hoods (NTFP)

  7. Possible conservation strategies • Strengthen institutional capacity (Gov’t, NGOs)

  8. Hoping that the REDD+ Process in Cameroon being launched in Ebolowa today shall device more strategies to safeguard the interest of forest dependent communities including the 42,115 of the Mbembe Forest Reserve
