  6. E-Verify • What is E-Verify? • Process for validating work eligibility • Operated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in partnership with the Social Security Administration (SSA) • How does it work? • It compares the information from the employee’s Form I-9 to records by the DHS & SSA to confirm if the employee is authorized to work in the United States

  7. E-Verify • Why are we implementing E-Verify? • Part of an Executive Order from the Bush Administration that any Federal contractor that receives a Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) contract must participate in E-Verify • What is our timeline? • Executive Order final date was September 8, 2009 (any contract received after this date would start OHSU in implementation) • OHSU receives its first FAR contract on September 28, 2009 (following the new September 8, 2009 rule)

  8. E-Verify • OHSU has 30 days to register for E-Verify (October 26, 2009) • An additional 90 days to implement E-Verify (January 26, 2010) • Who is impacted? • All new/rehired employees hired on or after January 25th, 2010 • Current employees assigned to a FAR contract • How is it completed? • For new hires, it is part of the Form I-9 process

  9. E-Verify • For current employees, HR will use funding string actuals to first identify those paid from a FAR contract and then validate the employee’s employment eligibility via E-Verify • Current employees will only be contacted if: • there is an issue with the Form I-9 currently on file with HR (requiring an I-9 to be redone) • E-Verify returns a Tentative Non-Confirmation employment eligibility status.
