The themes support recommendations in relation to best practice in the application of knowledge and skills • LLR LSCB approach for sharing the learning from reviews: • Bespoke targeted sessions • Core ‘best practice messages’ • Articles in Safeguarding Matters and single agency bulletins • Briefing papers • Cascading through the Trainers Network influencing Single and Multi –Agency Training

Themes for learning: • Compliance with Policy & Procedures • Management oversight, supervision and decision making • Assessment & Core Skills in safeguarding practice (relevance of Neglect, Drug Abuse, Domestic Abuse, Pre-birth assessments and safeguarding babies) • ‘Voice of the child’ / lived experience being recognised and represented Short term/long term • Child centred approach to parental non-engagement

What elements of this description do you recognise in practice? • Child protection work involves working with uncertainty: we cannot know for sure what is going on in families; we cannot be sure that improvements in family circumstances will last. • For some following the rules and being compliant can appear less risky than carrying the personal responsibility for exercising judgement? • Is there a reluctance to make negative professional judgements about a parent? How does this impact on our views in our efforts to think the best of families.
