  3. Verbs with Indirect Objects • Indirect object- answers the question to whom? an action is done. • An indirect object always comes after the verb and before the direct object.

  4. Steps • Identify the subject. • Identify the verb. • Identify the direct object by asking What? or Whom? of the verb. • Identify the indirect object by asking To Whom?

  5. Examples • Friends sent the actors flowers. • Sightseers paid the guides fees. • Michael Jordan shows his teammates new shots. • Rachel bought her friends postcards . • The audience gave the cast and orchestra a standing ovation. • The teacher gave the students a test.

  6. He brought miners food. • I ordered the students their books. • He offered Troy breakfast. • The mother sang the baby a song. • The mother sang the baby’s song to her children. • I like Tom. • The alarm woke the children.
