  2. What is an action verb? • An action verb is a verb that shows action. Examples: run, walk, sing, dance, talk, write The students write notes to each other. Action verb Action verb

  3. What is a direct object? • A direct object is the noun that receives the action of the verb. The direct object is always after the verb. I sent money to my sister. Money is the direct object since that is what I sent. I didn’t send my sister.

  4. How do I find the direct object? Step #1: Identify the verb. Step #2: Ask what or who receives the action. Example: I drew a picture for Miss Lowery. Step #1: What is the verb? Drew Step #2: Who/what did I draw? A picture. Picture is my direct object.

  5. The dogs like the little boy. Step #1: What is the verb? Like Step #2: Who/what do they like? The boy Boy is your direct object.

  6. What is an indirect object? • An indirect object tells us to whom or for whom an action was performed. Example: Sara gave Jordyn ice cream. Jordyn is the indirect object. The indirect object is always before the direct object. Not all sentences have an indirect object. Sentences follow this pattern: Subject-verb-indirect object-direct object

  7. Practice! 1. My mom washed my clothes last night. 2. Jack and Sage bought milk at the store. 3. Mia gave Mya a card. 4. At the end of the party, Lisa hugged Sara. 5. I ate my lunch from Newks. 6. Richard gave the book to Alex. 7. Isaiah completed his homework before dinner.
