  1. Answering Doctrinal Questions (Part 3) Stan Crowley But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; (1 Pet 3:15 NKJV)

  2. 8. At Christ’s second coming, will He establish a kingdom on earth and reign over it for a thousand years? • No. I Corinthians 15 clearly teaches that Jesus will cease to reign, not begin to reign, when He returns. (1 Cor 15:23-26 NKJV) … Christ's at His coming. Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. For He must reigntill He has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. 2

  3. 8. At Christ’s second coming, will He establish a kingdom on earth and reign over it for a thousand years? • A few N.T. verses that speak of His reign. (Acts 2:33 NKJV) "Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear. 3

  4. 8. At Christ’s second coming, will He establish a kingdom on earth and reign over it for a thousand years? • A few N.T. verses that speak of His reign. (Acts 5:30-31 NKJV) "The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree. Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. (Acts 7:56 NKJV) and said, "Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!” 4

  5. 8. At Christ’s second coming, will He establish a kingdom on earth and reign over it for a thousand years? • A few N.T. verses that speak of His reign. (Col 1:13 NKJV) He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, (Col 3:1 NKJV) …those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. (Rom 8:34 NKJV) … It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. 5

  6. 8. At Christ’s second coming, will He establish a kingdom on earth and reign over it for a thousand years? • A few N.T. verses that speak of His reign. (1 Pet 3:21-22 NKJV) … Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him. 6

  7. 8. At Christ’s second coming, will He establish a kingdom on earth and reign over it for a thousand years? • A few N.T. verses that speak of His reign. (Heb 1:3 NKJV) … when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, (Heb 8:1 NKJV) Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, (Heb 10:12 NKJV) But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, 7

  8. 8. At Christ’s second coming, will He establish a kingdom on earth and reign over it for a thousand years? • A few N.T. verses that speak of His reign. (1 Cor 15:23-26 NKJV) … Christ's at His coming. Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. 8

  9. The Second Coming of Christ • There is controversy about His return: • Some say He will not return. (2 Pet 3:4 NKJV) and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? • Some say He has already returned. (2 Tim 2:18 NKJV) … saying that the resurrection is already past; … • Some say they know when it will be. • (2 Th 2:2 ASV) … be not quickly shaken … that the day of the Lord is just at hand; 9

  10. The Second Coming of Christ • But, there is perhaps even greater controversy about what will happen when He does return. • Many believe in a thousand-year earthly reign by Christ. 10

For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. • (1 Cor 15:53 NKJV) For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. • (1 Cor 15:54 NKJV) So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory." 26
