Basowiszcza • TheFestival of Young BelarusBasowiszczaisorganized by theBelarusianStudentsAssociation, heldannuallysince 1990 inthesecondhalf of July, in a forest clearing Boryk near thevillagefacing Gródek. Thefestivalis one of biggestmusiceventsinthenorth-east part of Poland and became an inseparable part of thecultural life of the Podlaski Region. Music and otheraspects of culturepresentedthereareaimedatdifferentiatedaudienceinterestedin modern culture. NowadaysBasowiszczait is not only music, art, literature, film or photography but also workshops.

  4. MIDSUMMERNIGHT One of the Slavicholidays, riotously celebrated on 7 July in Białowieża. Every year in theJuly night masses of people meet to sing traditional songs by campfires and participate in the celebration of Midsummer Night. Various attractions like foretelling the future and dancing are held. The girls throw into the current of the river their wreaths with lit candles, if a wreath is caught by a bachelor, that girl is supposed to get married soon. Jumping over the fire is held. The fun usually lasts until dawn. .

THE PODLASIE OCTAVE OF CULTURES The Podlasie Octave of Cultures, the 6th International Festival of Music, Art, and Folklore will take place in Białystok and the Podlasie Region on 22nd-28th July 2013. One of the main festival objectives is the presentation of artistic achievements of the groups from Poland and the countries connected with the ethnic minorities living in the Podlasie Region (Lithuanians, Roms, Ukrainians, Jews, Tatars, Russians, and Byelorussians) The festival is the place of cooperation and the exchange of experience between artists, participants and audience gives a chance to learn the richness of culture and traditions of the Podlasie Region, Poland and the countries of Eastern Europe teaching tolerance and respect to cultural and religious dissimilarity of other nations.

  6. THE PODLASIE OCTAVE OF CULTURES • At the festival, there are different genres of music and art from traditional music by folk, jazz to classical music. There are singing and dancing groups. VI edition oftheFestival will take place from 22 to 28 July 2013

SAILING IN ANYTHING AUGUSTÓW SUMMER THEATRE • One of the numerous cultural events is “sailing in anything” a funny and spectacular competition for imaginative people who construct the strangest possible “machines” able to float. There are also picnics, shows, concerts by Polish bands and annual performances. This unusual competition takes place on the banks of the Netta every year on the last Sunday of July. • Another cultural event is the Augustów Summer Theatre, which lasts from the beginning of July until the end of August providing an opportunity to spend the night watching performances, films and sketches in the fresh air.
