  3. The Communications Center • is an academic environment where students focus on their learning. • Please turn cell phones off or on “silent mode” • No food and only capped drinks allowed • Please no visitors or children. SILENT PLEASE!

  4. Communications Center Staff • Instructors • Provide in-depth help. • Offer extensive teaching experience. • Student Assistants • Help with many routine questions. • Have EAP/Developmental class experience.

  5. The Main Lab • Currently enrolled EAP or Developmental Reading or English Valencia College students • Students must be logged-in with their own VID number • Over 100 computers with interactive programs & tutorials Remember: You MUST have your VID card in order to log into a computer! (A VID may be obtained in 3-147)

  6. Printer Usage • 10 cents per page, black and white • Color printing available at the library • Print cards are available by the printer, in the Library (bldg. 6), and in the Math Lab (7-240). • Use your computer station number to print your work. • If you have a technical problem or need assistance, please ask for help at the front desk.

  7. FYI • Save all work to a USB/Flash Drive • All files saved to lab computers will be deleted when the system is restarted.

  8. The Main Lab – Materials Desk • Workbooks, practice exams, & quizzes available at the Materials Desk. • Checked out to your library Borrower ID number • Must be returned before leaving • Library fines charged for lost/late items REMINDER: You MUST have your VID card in order to check out lab materials.(A VID may be obtained in 3-147)

EAP/Foreign Languages Lab • Reserved for EAP Speech and Foreign Language students (EAP0281, 0300, 0400, 1500). • Specialized equipment and headsets for listening to and recording speech, including Azar, Ellis, Aplia, and access to Mango Languages. • Instructors and staff in lab ready to assist you!

  10. Speech/Video Room • Computer, television, and camera available to record or practice speeches. • You may book room for speech and/or to work together as a group. • Instructors and staff in lab ready to assist you!

  11. Summer 2014 Main Writing Center Hours: Monday – Thursday: 8a.m. – 8p.m. Friday: 8a.m. – 12p.m. Saturday: 9a.m. – 2p.m. Mobile Hours: Monday-Thursday 8a.m.-4p.m.

  12. Help is available to all Valencia students from all courses and disciplines college-wide. • Appointments are required. • 1/day, 3/week • 30 minutes long (60 minutes for research papers) • “no-show” appointments may be given to waiting students after five minutes • Students with repeated no-shows will lose the use of the Writing Center.

  13. Come prepared! • Bring a clean, printed copy of your work. • Bring a copy of the assignment, if possible. • Instructors will: • Identify and review problem areas. • Offer one-on-one lessons on weak skills. • Send a summary to classroom instructor. • Instructors will NOT: • Proofread or grade papers.

  14. We are here to help you! • We are available to answerquestions on software, labs, and class assignments. • Computers and programs available 6 days a week. • Instructors and staff members with the knowledge to work with you on achieving higher grades. • The Writing Center for in-depth and personal guidance with essays, speeches, or homework. • Reference books, literature, and interactive labs to assist you in maximizing your learning potential!
