  4. Building Blocks The Monomer of a lipid is a glycerol and 3 fatty acid molecules • Consists of 3 fatty acids & glycerol also know as triglycerides (polymer) • Glycerol & • 3 Fatty Acids

Functions of a lipid • Stores energy long term • Forms membranes around our cells called a phospholipids bilayer • Lipids provide insulation in your body and they protect your organs • Steroids and Hormones like testosterone, progesterone and estrogen. • Cholesterol is a lipid it is important in cell membranes
