  4. Aim of the module • The aim of the module is to introduce the Junior Medical Students to the basics of Emergency care and approach to first aid. The student will participate in practical session to demonstrate the applied aspects of Basic Emergency Medicine.

  5. Module Content • LECTURES • 01 Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).  • 02 Disease identification and Injury Prevention (Dehydration and Shock). • 03 First Aid (Fracture, Wounds and Burns). • 04 Common Medical Emergency (Cardiopulmonary & Gastrointestinal) • 05 Common Medical Emergency (Endocrine & Neurological )

Module Content • PRACTICAL SESSIONS • 01 Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). • 02 Disease identification and Injury Prevention (Dehydration and Shock). • 03 First Aid (Fracture, Wounds and Burns). • 04 Common Medical Emergency (Cardiopulmonary & Gastrointestinal) • 05 Common Medical Emergency (Endocrine & Neurological )

  7. Student Directed Learning (SDL)  • Student Directed Learning (SDL)  • Independent student learning is a very essential skill for tomorrow’s doctors. Topics include : • Management of Diabetic ketoacidosis • Management of road traffic accident • Management of coma • Management of chest pain . • Management of epilepsy

  8. ASSESSMENT Summative assessment: 100 marks - OSCE (30%) - Written Final Examination (50%) - Attendance (10%) - SDL (10%)

  10. Students’ Responsibilities • Attendance will be taken in the first 10 minutes of the lecture, those with repeated absences may not be allowed to sit for the final exam –as per regulations- • Refer to the study guide provided for lecture’s objective and further references.
