  1. Primary Research Report • Ryan Collier

  2. My Method: • I used a questionnaire to find out information about my target audience. I used a questionnaire to gather data because i can design the questionnaire to suit my needs/find out what i want to find out. I chose a questionnaire over a focus group because a focus group is based on discussion and they people in the group can go off topic and talk about things that aren’t relevant and not what i want to know. My question had 10 questions and contained a mixture of open and closed questions. I included open questions so that i can get more detail in certain important questions that require more. Open questions give qualitative data. I used closed questions so that it is quicker for the person who is filling in the questionnaire, so there is more chance that they will fill it in and do it properly.

  6. My Findings: My findings have showed me that my target audience: 1) Mostly read Kerrang and NME. 2) Mostly buy their magazines on a weekly basis. 3) They will be willing to pay £1.50 for a weekly magazine. 4) They would prefer to recieve gig tickets, posters and t-shirts as gifts. 5) Like the colours red and white as a colour scheme. 6) Like main articles about future bands and gig reviews. 7) Like minor articles about future bands, news features, interviews and album reviews 8) My audience are mostly male students of the age 16-20 years old.

  7. Conclusion: In conclusion, i will base my magazine in the style (layout, content etc...) of Kerrang and NME because these are the magazines that most of my target audience already read. I will release my magazine on a weekly basis because my target audience buy their magazines on a weekly basis (i know this because NME and Kerrang are released on a weekly basis). My magazine will cost £1.50 because 80% of the people i asked would pay that amount - which is a majority. I will give away posters, t-shirts and gig tickets (or add in competitions for gig tickets) as gifts with my magazine because these are what my target audience would prefer to receive when buying my magazine. My colour scheme for my magazine will be red and white because this is the most popular colour scheme for a magazine. I will include main articles more often about future/upcoming bands and gig reviews and include minor articles more often about future bands, news features, interviews with bands/artists and album reviews because this is what my target audience would prefer to read about. However, i will swap occasionally (minor articles will be major articles and visa versa) so my magazine is the same every week. In my magazine, i will relate to my target audience (16-20 year old students/part-time employed) in my magazine. By doing this, i will attract more people as it will seem like the magazine suits them.
