  2. What We are Learning Today: • To determine if a given Ordered Pair is a solution to an equation • To find solutions of an equation

Checking an Ordered Pair: • REMEMBER: in an ordered pair the x ALWAYS is first, the y is second • (x, y) • Replace the x with the x value from the ordered pair • Replace the y with the y value from the ordered pair • Simplify both sides • Are the two sides equal? • YES? This is a solution • NO? This is NOT a solution

  4. Let’s Try These Together: y = 2x – 4; (7, 10) y = -½x + 12; (10, 5)

Finding Solutions for an Equation: • Draw a table • Choose values for x and put it in the table • -1, 0, 1, 2 are usually good choices • Put these values into the equation for x • Solve the equation for y (y = a number) • These are the solutions for your equation • Write them as an Ordered Pair • Hint: • If the slope is a fraction choose numbers that are multiples of the denominator
